Kentucky VB Winning Streak Will be Tested in Back-to-Back SEC Matchups

Kentucky volleyball faces a pivotal weekend as the Wildcats host Vanderbilt at 7:00 p.m. (SEC Network+) at Memorial Coliseum on Friday, before traveling to Austin to take on No. 2 Texas at 1:00 p.m. (ESPN) on Sunday.
This weekend features two key SEC matchups with a national powerhouse showdown that has the potential to majorly impact Kentucky’s momentum and postseason positioning. The Cats enter the weekend on a 13-match win streak and will look to keep riding that momentum deeper into conference play.
Senior outside hitter Brooklyn DeLeye has spearheaded the Cats’ offense all season, averaging 4.69 kills per set in recent matches and recording five double-doubles this season. Freshman setter Kassie O’Brien has proven herself as a key playmaker, averaging 10.16 assists per set, and winning several SEC Freshman of the Week awards.
Ahead of the weekend matchups, Coach Craig Skinner stressed the importance of not looking ahead to the big test that awaits on Sunday.
“I do have to give our team credit,” Skinner said. “They’ve done a really good job of not getting ahead of themselves and realizing the importance of their own development and our ability to play well on Friday.”

Vanderbilt opens the weekend with a skilled and disciplined challenge. Junior outside hitter Kamryn Chaney has led the Commodores all season long, ranking third in the SEC in aces per set (.53) and eighth in points per set (4.63). Through efficient offense, Vanderbilt is elite at minimizing errors, forcing opponents to stay sharp from start to finish.
The Commodores also feature a few familiar faces, including freshman Maya Brevowitz, the younger sister of Kentucky junior Molly Brevowitz, adding another layer of emotions to the matchup. Vanderbilt’s head coach, Anders Nelson, was a former UK assistant, while former Kentucky player Azhani Tealer is now an assistant on staff with the ‘Dores. To pull out the win, the Wildcats will need to establish momentum from the jump and execute crisply to keep their winning streak going.
Less than 48 hours later, Kentucky will match up with No. 2 Texas in a marquee showdown on ESPN.
The undefeated Longhorns possess a strong weapon in outside hitter Torrey Stafford, who averages 4.33 kills per set while hitting 0.33, recording several double-doubles this season. Texas boasts multiple elite players with dominant blocking abilities and elite hitting, recording a team hitting percentage of .309 in recent matches. Kentucky’s experience this season with other top-10 programs on the road will help them down the stretch in the hostile Austin environment.
With a weekend full of big expectations, Kentucky has the opportunity to define itself once again this season. In two matches, each featuring contrasting styles, the Wildcats will look to use their talent and leadership to leave their mark on both the SEC and national opponents.
