Kentucky Volleyball: Craig Skinner Shouts from the Top of Lexington (and Wofford Intel)
It’s been a wild week in Lexington. The Kentucky football program fired and hired a new head coach, all while the basketball team laid an egg against North Carolina. It will only get crazier for Will Stein‘s introductory press conference this afternoon, hours after National Signing Day.
Unfortunately, it’s caused the Kentucky volleyball team to get lost in the mix. The second-ranked Wildcats are hosting the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament this weekend, and Craig Skinner is shouting from the top of Lexington to get people to pack Historic Memorial Coliseum.
It was a bit that started with Skinner standing on top of a table to kick off a press conference at Kroger Field. He upped the ante by going to the rafters of Rupp Arena. Now he’s going to the highest point in Lexington, atop the Fifth Third Building in downtown Lexington, to recruit Kentucky fans to this weekend’s NCAA Tournament action.
“It’s time to get your tickets, so don’t Brooklyn DeLeye. Jump in your Lizzie Carr and go get your tickets at Memorial Coliseum,” Skinner said from the viewing deck at the top of the Lexington Financial Center (that I did not know existed).
Tickets for Thursday night’s game against Wofford are still available. The game is slotted to start at 7 PM ET, however, it could begin earlier. According to NCAA rules, the second game of the night begins 30 minutes after the first. That means if UCLA and Georgia Tech flies by with a sweep, the game may begin before the originally scheduled time. Be prepared, be loud, and let’s get a win, BBN.

Chloe Smith earned Most Outstanding Player honors after Wofford’s dramatic 5-set win in the SoCon Tournament Finals. She’s also my cousin. Naturally, we talked some ball at Thanksgiving, and I don’t think she’ll mind if I share any “scoop.”
Chloe is a sophomore outside hitter who has played every single point for Wofford this season. It’s been fun to follow her success from afar, and there will be a rowdy family section at tomorrow night’s game. The team has suffered through a ton of injuries. Seven players have been sidelined, and four could not get into the postgame dogpile because they were on crutches.
Another important piece of intel: Wofford celebrates with a dog bark. The unofficial cheer is much different than what you hear from Georgia fans. They put two fingers up, like Terrier ears, and yell, “BARK! BARK!” How amusing.
Wofford has been to three NCAA Tournaments, and they’ve all happened over the last three years. In their NCAA Tournament debut, they actually were paired with Kentucky. The Terriers took sets off two other SEC teams this year, but an upset is unlikely. Nevertheless, it’ll be exciting to see a family member compete against the Cats in the NCAA Tournament.
