Kentucky Volleyball Sweeps Wofford in NCAA Tournament Opener

For the second time in three years, the Kentucky volleyball team opened NCAA Tournament play with a win over the Wofford Terriers.

The Wildcats were untested for most of the match (25-11, 25-19, 25-12). Each set started relatively even until Kentucky asserted its dominance. There was one exception in set No. 2 against the SoCon Champs.

The pesky Terriers refused to go away. Chloe Smith’s kill tied the game at 17. That’s when Kentucky locked in. Brooklyn DeLeye terminated two of the next three points to give the Cats some cushion, before she brought home the set point. It was a beautiful ace that dropped right in the back corner of the floor.

DeLeye led the Cats with 14 kills and only one error to hit .419. Eva Hudson and Lizzie Carr added nine kills apiece to fortify the frontline. Carr also had a pair of blocks while hitting .400.

Kentucky advances to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, where they will host UCLA at Historic Memorial Coliseum. The Bruins might be a bit more fatigued. The No. 8 seed trailed 2-1 entering the fourth set before rallying to knock off Georgia Tech (24-26, 25-19, 23-25, 25-18, 15-10).

A win will secure a spot in the Sweet 16. The action begins at 7 PM ET. You can get tickets to watch the action in person at Historic Memorial Coliseum.
