Kentucky WBB announces Lindsey Hicks as Kenny Brooks' top assistant

Kenny Brooks is slowly filling out his staff. The new Kentucky women’s basketball head coach now has his top assistant.
On Wednesday morning, Lindsey Hicks was officially announced on Instagram as the program’s associate head coach. Hicks comes to Lexington after having spent the last four seasons under Brooks while the two were at Virginia Tech. She joined the Hokies in August 2020 as an assistant and was promoted to associate head coach in 2023.
“I’m very thankful to be joining Coach Brooks and to be a part of Big Blue Nation,” Hicks said in UK’s press release. “The rich winning tradition of UK Athletics is something that I’m grateful to be a part of. I’m extremely excited for this new chapter and look forward to building this program into a championship brand.”
With Hicks helping lead the charge, Virginia Tech went 94-33 (49-21 ACC) and made the NCAA Tournament in all four seasons, including a spot in the 2023 Final Four.

Hicks, who hails from Lebanon, OH, was the runner-up for Ohio Miss Basketball in 2000 out of high school and has her jersey retired at Lebanon High School. From there, she went to Purdue as a Parade All-American and was a piece of the Boilermakers’ top-ranked recruiting class.
While at Purdue, Hicks helped engineer four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, which included winning the national championship in 2001. She was also a member of three Big Ten championships with the Boilermakers. After six years of playing professionally overseas, she then shifted her focus to coaching.
Hicks actually got her start in the Bluegrass at Morehead State where she was an assistant for two seasons. From there, she joined Alabama as a video coordinator for two seasons before making stops at Northwestern State (one season) and Louisiana Tech (three seasons). Hicks then landed at Virginia Tech, where she’s credited with developing three-time ACC Player of the Year, center Elizabeth Kitley.
Now, she’ll help rebuild Kentucky women’s basketball alongside Brooks.
