After bringing in a six-woman rookie class a year ago, Kyra Elzy has scaled things back this time around, but she still brought in a great piece for the future.

On Wednesday morning, Kentucky women’s basketball announced the signing of 6-foot-2 guard Jordy Griggs out of Moreno Valley, CA. The class of 2023 prospect is considered a four-star prospect over at ESPN and will play her senior season at powerhouse program Montverde Academy, which won the 2022 GEICO High School Nationals championship.

Griggs initially committed to Kentucky on Oct. 21 over the likes of Auburn, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, NC State, Clemson, and Virginia Tech, among others. She is currently UK’s lone commit from the ’23 class.

“I am thrilled to introduce Jordy Griggs to the Big Blue Nation,” Elzy said in the school’s press release. “Fans will love the energy that she exudes on the court. Jordy has the potential to make an immediate impact on our program. She plays with a high motor and is gifted with great length and athleticism. Her versatility allows her to play both inside and out. She is crafty offensively, creating scoring opportunities for herself and others. Jordy is also an active defender that can rebound. She is a perfect fit for our system at Kentucky, and I simply cannot wait for her to get on campus next summer.”

Griggs brings plenty of versatility to Kentucky as a lengthy 6-foot-2 guard. Back in January, she was tabbed the 2022 She Got Game Classic Most Valuable Player following a 33-point, 23-rebound performance. Griggs has also trained with the Team USA U16 club and has been invited to the WOOTTEN Top 150 Camp and the Steph Curry Underrated Camp. She was also previously mentored by the late Kobe Bryant.

As a junior in 2021-22 at Osborne High School in Marietta, GA, Griggs was named to the region six first team for her averages of 21.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 2.5 blocks, and 2.3 assists per game. She will join Kentucky in the summer of 2023.
