Georgia Amoore, a 2023-24 Third Team All-American at Virginia Tech, is officially a ‘Cat.

Kentucky women’s basketball announced the news on Monday afternoon, four days after Amoore posted to social media that she would follow Kenny Brooks from Virginia Tech to Lexington. The 5-foot-6 senior point guard entered her name into the transfer portal exactly one week ago and didn’t waste any time making her next move.

“I am elated to add Georgia to our roster at Kentucky,” Brooks, who accepted the Kentucky head coaching job in late March, said in UK’s press release. “Her work ethic and accomplishments add credibility as we try to build Kentucky into a contender. Our experiences together will help to make a smoother transition and I can’t wait for BBN to experience her passion for the game!”

Amoore, who hails from Australia and was a projected first-round 2024 WNBA Draft pick, will come to Kentucky as a graduate student with one year of college eligibility remaining.

Throughout her four-year career in Blacksburg, Amoore etched her name all throughout the Virginia Tech record books. She’s the program’s all-time leader in assists (656) while ranking second in three-pointers (330) and third in overall scoring (1,853). As a senior this past season, she averaged 18.8 points and 6.8 assists per game on her way to making the All-ACC First Team (for the second straight season) and multiple Third Team All-American lists.

Amoore is just one of a handful of pieces from Virginia Tech who have already announced their intentions to rejoin Brooks at UK. Last week, Amoore’s former Hokie teammate, 6-foot-5 sophomore center Clara Strack, also announced her transfer to Kentucky, although the program has yet to officially declare her as signed.

Additionally, JUCO transfer Amelia Hassett and four-star high school senior Lexi Blue have also flipped from VT to Kentucky. Another incoming freshman, 6-foot-6 Portugal native Clara Silva, is a name linked as a possible addition to Brooks’ first recruiting class with the Wildcats.

In terms of players officially on the 2024-25 roster according to UK’s team website, Amoore, Saniah Tyler, Cassidy Rowe, and Amiya Jenkins are the only ones listed. Eight players from the 2023-24 roster have entered the transfer portal. Following the decommitment of Ramiya White (who chose Kentucky under former head coach Kyra Elzy), Brooks still has one incoming freshman from the old regime on board, 6-foot-1 guard Tanah Becker.

A full-on rebuild is underway in Lexington. There aren’t many better foundational pieces than an All-American floor general.
