The Wildcats now know its path to reach the first Final Four in program history.

The Kentucky Women’s Basketball team was tabbed as a six-seed out of the Bridgeport Region in the upcoming 2022 NCAA Tournament, with a first-round showdown against the 11-seeded Princeton Tigers, it was announced on Sunday night. The ‘Cats will take a 10-game winning streak into the tourney and will head to Bloomington, IN to play Princeton on Saturday, March 19. Tipoff times have yet to be announced.

The top four seeds from the Brideport Region are as follows: No. 1 NC State, No. UConn, No. 3 Indiana, and No. 4 Oklahoma.

Kentucky was projected to earn a seven-seed by ESPN’s Charlie Creme but was ultimately bumped up a line to the six-seed, which will give the ‘Cats a more favorable draw. If UK were to have been tabbed a seven-seed, that could have matched them up against No. 2 UConn in the Round of 32. Instead, Kentucky won’t have to play the Huskies until the Sweet 16 if the team can make it that far.

If Kentucky were to beat Princeton, that would set up a matchup between either 3-seeded Indiana or 14-seeded Charlotte, which would both hold interesting storylines. The Hoosiers spanked the ‘Cats in the third game of the season in Bloomington by a final score of 88-67. For Charlotte, former Kentucky WBB players Kameron Roach and KeKe McKinney both suit up for the 49ers, with McKinney taking home C-USA Defensive Player of the Year honors.

The only reason UK is in the position in the first place is thanks to an improbable late-season turnaround that saw the ‘Cats win six games to close out the regular season and then win four more in four days to secure the school’s first SEC Tournament title in 40 years.

Another six wins and Kentucky could make even more history…
