Kentucky's Jovon Bouknight expected to take job at Marshall

Kentucky football staff member Jovon Bouknight is leaving the program to become the wide receivers coach at Marshall.

On3’s Matt Zenitz was the first to break the news.

Bouknight spent his second season at Kentucky as a quality control assistant after spending his first as the team’s wide receivers coach. He was demoted following his first year in Lexington after being arrested in May on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence, possession of an open alcohol beverage container in a motor vehicle and speeding 26 mph or more over the speed limit.

The DUI charge was later dismissed for refusing to submit a sobriety test, though his driver’s license was still suspended for the normal duration of a DUI conviction. He ultimately plead guilty to his possession and speeding charges.

Bouknight was replaced by Scott Woodward, a former quality control coach at Pittsburgh, as Kentucky’s wide receivers coach. Briefly suspended following his May arrest, Bouknight returned to the program in June as a quality control coach.

He previously spent time at Oregon and Texas Tech as a wide receivers coach (2019), with his coaching career starting at Utah State (2008-18). During his time with the Aggies, Bouknight worked his way up from a graduate assistant role up to co-offensive coordinator and outside receivers coach.

As a player, Bouknight was a star receiver at Wyoming, where he finished his career ranked No. 20 all-time in NCAA history in receiving yards (3,626) and receptions (250). He also ranks second all-time in Mountain West history in those two categories.
