Kevin Knox traded to Atlanta Hawks in Cam Reddish deal
The NBA trade deadline is still roughly a month away, but teams are already beginning to pull the trigger on deals.
On Thursday morning, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Atlanta Hawks will receive New York Knicks forward Kevin Knox in a deal that sends Cam Reddish up to NY. The entire deal consists of Reddish, Solomon Hill, and a 2025 second-round pick (via the Brooklyn Nets) going to the Knicks with Knox and a protected 2022 first-round pick (via the Charlotte Hornets) heading to Atlanta.
Knox spent one season at Kentucky from 2017-18, averaging 15.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game while taking home SEC Freshman of the Year honors. Since getting drafted by the Knicks with the 9th overall pick back in 2018, Knox has been limited to mostly a bench role in his four seasons.
He began his rookie season averaging 12.8 points and 4.5 rebounds in 75 games, including 57 starts, but has since seen his production steadily decline. Knox averaged 6.4 points in year two, 3.9 points last season, and now 3.6 per game in just 13 appearances. It was long overdue for Knox and the Knicks to part ways.
Going down to Atlanta will hopefully give Knox a chance to revive his professional career. He could theoretically slide into the role that Reddish held, but that could be a lot to ask so soon. The Hawks would like to make the playoffs but currently sit with a 17-21 overall record. Toying with lineups and giving a guy like Knox extra opportunities could be tough.
Regardless, a change in scenery was necessary for Knox, even if he doesn’t play all that much. He’ll likely wind up as a free agent this summer, as well. Change is good. Best of luck to Kevin for the rest of the season!
