Kevin Knox wins Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month

by: Jack Pilgrim01/03/19
After a relatively slow start to his NBA career, former Kentucky forward Kevin Knox has taken his game to the next level throughout the month of December. And it's been enough to take home Rookie of the Month honors in the Eastern Conference. https://twitter.com/IanBegley/status/1080917267251113986 Just 19 years old, Knox averaged 17.1 points (led all rookies in the conference) and six rebounds per contest (second among rookies in the conference). He also led all rookies in the East with 33 three-pointers in December. Here are his total numbers over the month:
  • 17.1 points
  • 6.0 rebounds
  • 1.5 assists
  • 40.3 field goal percentage
  • 38.4 three-point percentage
  • 50.2 true shooting percentage
  • 34.9 minutes per game
Back on December 9 against the Charlotte Hornets, the 6-foot-9 rookie forward became just the second teenager in NBA history with at least 25 points and 15 rebounds in a game. The other? LeBron James. On that same night, Knox joined Patrick Ewing as the second Knicks rookie over the last 40-plus years with at least 25 and 15 in a single game. Back on December 14, Knox also became the first Knicks rookie to record at least 19 points and three three-pointers in three consecutive games since the 1983-84 season. The former Wildcat had six games of 20 or more points, along with just two games below the ten-point threshold.
