We are very much entering the recruiting zone in college football with National Signing Day arriving next month. There will be a lot of movement as that day quickly approaches. Kentucky will be involved in that movement one way or the other.

On Monday night, the Cats lost their second tailback commit in three weeks as low three-star tailback Khalifa Keith backed off his commitment shortly after Frankfort (Ky.) Franklin County running back Kaden Moorman did the same.

The Birmingham (Ala.) Parker tailback has reportedly taken recent visits to South Carolina and Tennessee as the season has developed. Back in the summer, Kentucky hosted Keith for an official visit in June and secured a commitment in July as Florida State and Georgia Tech were seen as the top competition for the tailback that rushed for over 1,800 yards as a junior.

That leaves the Cats with zero running backs in the 2023 recruiting class despite currently having three scholarship seniors on the roster. Kentucky will need to add some players at tailback before this recruiting cycle is over.

Kentucky has other options

However, the cupboard is not bare as the Wildcats have been quietly doing some work on some other three-star tailbacks.

Douglasville (Ga.) South Paulding senior Jamarion Wilcox took an official visit to Lexington in October as the Cats appear to be a serious player for one of the top tailbacks in the Peach State with Clemson seen as UK’s top competition at the moment.

Elsewhere, Vince Marrow is making some moves in Ohio.

Cincinnati (Ohio) Winton Woods tailback Trey Cornist recently decommitted from Georgia Tech following the firing of head coach Geoff Collins. Shortly after publicly joining the open marker, both Kentucky and Michigan State issued verbal scholarship offers to Cornist. Expect the Wildcats to get the 5-foot-10, 220-pound power back on campus soon.

There are other options available for the Cats. A trip into the transfer portal is also possible after the season. There is still time to add depth at running back, but it’s clear that this is one of the biggest positions of need as the 2023 class is in the beginning stages of coming to a close.
