KHSAA State Baseball and Softball Tournaments Begin Thursday at UK

It’s a big weekend at the University of Kentucky and it has nothing to do with UK Athletics. Kentucky Proud Park and John Cropp Stadium are hosting the KHSAA State Baseball and Softball Tournaments this weekend.
Similar to the Basketball Sweet 16, there is only one state champion crowned in Kentucky high school baseball and softball. Unlike the basketball tournaments, these will take place over two weeks, giving pitchers time to rest between starts.
The first rounds of the tournament will take place on Thursday and Friday, followed by quarterfinal action on Saturday. The plan is to play four games over each of the next three days, but inclement weather can always force a change of plans. The semifinals will be next Friday, followed by the championship games on Saturday.

The Defending State Champs are still alive. PRP defeated DeSales in the Sixth Region Final to make the return trip to Lexington. The Panthers won the program’s seventh state championship in 2024, but they aren’t the favorites in this year’s field.

Trinity will get the action started on Thursday morning at 10 AM ET against Meade County. The Rocks are the top-ranked team in the state with a 34-3 record. They avenged one of their two instate losses by knocking off rival St. X in the Seventh Region final. Sayre will be making the school’s first state tournament appearance after upsetting three-time defending 11th Region Champs Lexington Catholic in 10 innings.

Henderson County won the school’s first-ever softball state title a year ago by shutting out North Laurel in an 11-0 victory. They’re 31-6 this season, but like their baseball counterparts, they aren’t the favorite to take home the title.
South Warren has the state’s best slugger. WKU commit Layla Ogden tied the state record with 24 home runs, while UK commit McLaine Hudson is batting .617 with 59 RBIs. Assumption is the only team in the field who has a victory over South Warren this season.
