After getting to convincing wins in front of the home crowd at Historic Memorial Coliseum, Kentucky is tasked with playing a rare road game against a mid-major program in the Buffalo Bulls. Here’s everything you need to know about the Clara Strack homecoming game, including how to watch and listen.

Bio Blast

Last season, Buffalo was one of the best mid-major programs in the country, going 30-7 as they took down UMass, Southern Indiana, Rutgers, Cleveland State and Troy en route to winning the Women’s NIT Championship. Unfortunately for Buffalo, their head from from last season, Becky Burke, is now at Arizona. They’re now under the leadership of Kristen Sharkey, who was a two-time All-MAC selection in hr playing days for the Bulls.

They return just two players from last year’s team, junior guard Paula Lopez and redshirt freshman guard Aniya Rowe. Additionally, they brought in freshman forward Kyleigh Hall this offseason, who was a standout performer at Assumption High School in Louisville.

Buffalo opened their season with a rather disappointing 53-39 loss at Marshall on November 3rd. Kentucky will also play at Marshall on November 15th, so we can get a decent idea of how that game might go based on the result of the Kentucky’s game against Buffalo.

Scouting Report

Lopez is was on the Bulls’ top performers against the Thundering Herd, recording seven points, four rebounds and one assists in their 14-point loss in Huntington. A year ago, she averaged just 2.6 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 14 minutes per game. Those numbers are about certain to spike this season and potentially against the Cats.

Senior guard Anaya Coleman led Buffalo in scoring on the 3rd, putting up 10 points on 4-10 shooting from the field. The 5-foot-6 guard also had two assists, rebounds and steals in the game. Fellow guard Gabby McDuffie had five points, three rebounds and three steals alongside her in the backcourt.

For the first time this season, Clara Strack and Teonni Key will be matched up against someone as big as they are — 6-foot-5 center Ally Carman. The senior out of New Jersey had just six points and two rebounds against Marshall, but she did swat away two shots as well.

Phoenix’s Prediction

Score: 84-43, Kentucky

MVP: Clara Strack

After Kentucky shot the leather off the ball against Monmouth, I’m feeling a lot better about this group offensively. With Buffalo mustering just 39 points against Marshall in their season opener, I think the Cats will put the clamps on defensively and win this one soundly. Of course, with this being the Clara Strack homecoming game, I expect her to have a big-time performance. Let’s call it 24 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks for the hometown kid against the Bulls.
