Finally. After a long, long offseason, it’s game day. Kentucky women’s basketball opens up its 2025-26 campaign against the Morehead State Eagles, who have been completely flipped upside down this offseason, starting with the hiring of Ashton Feldhaus — the niece of former UK men’s basketball player Deron Feldhaus. At age 30, she is also the youngest head coach in the nation.

Here’s everything you need to know about Morehead State ahead of Monday’s game.

Bio Blast

Feldhaus — as we just mentioned — has completely revamped this Eagles roster. For starters, it seems like she really likes international players. In fact, of the 12 players listed on the team’s roster, only two (Landon Forbes and Violet McNece) are from the United States. Everyone else hails from other parts of the world.

Before arriving at Morehead State, Feldhaus was at D-II Missouri Western, where she led the Griffons to a 20-10 overall record while going 14-5 in conference play. In her lone season there, Missouri Western was a preseason No. 7 pick in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, but the Griffons would finish third, earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament.

Last season, Morehead State went just 10-20 overall and 5-15 in the Ohio Valley Conference. They got off to an okay 6-6 start to the year, but following that, the Eagles would proceed to lose nine of their next 10 games, which is what ultimately derailed their season.

Scouting Report

It’s largely unknown what we can expect from this Eagles team, but we do know that Feldhaus has a few weapons at her disposal who at least put up some productive numbers prior to this year.

Kate Dike, who played for Morehead State last season, averaged 4.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game as a junior. The 6-foot-3 forward is their most physically imposing piece — meaning that the Cats will certainly have the size advantage come Monday night.

Outside of her, there are two guards really worth keeping an eye on — Landon Forbes and Marie Sepp. Last season, Forbes averaged 8.9 points and four assists per game while shooting 36% from three-point range at Hutchinson Community College (KS). Sepp, on the other hands, played for Feldhaus at Missouri Western last season after spending the first two years of her collegiate career at Albany. She recorded 12 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game a year ago.

Phoenix’s Prediction

Score: 88-47

MVP: Teonni Key

I believe Kentucky wins this one comfortably as the Cats control the tempo and pace of play from the get-go. Ashton Feldhaus will get thing going at Morehead State, but her rebuild’s gonna have to wait for at least one game. Teonni Key erupts for a 22-point outing — the Eagles just not being able to keep up with her length and athleticism.
