KSR Road Trips: Kentucky Fans are Fed Up After Another Loss to Tennessee

You know it’s bad when singing karaoke — Roses by Outkast, to be specific — at a pregame tailgate is the highlight of your Saturday, but hey, you have to get your fun in when you can. KSR‘s Spidey senses were tingling ahead of Kentucky vs. Tennessee, comparing the excitement of the week before with Texas in town for Family Weekend and Homecoming.

Lexington was hopping against the Longhorns. Against the Volunteers? Danger was afoot.

“We know what happens when we play this team,” Nick Roush said on the drive in, minutes before explaining how Roses really smell like boo-boo-ooh with a microphone in hand.

Then came the actual game, Tennessee going up big early with the sea of orange looking brighter and brighter.

The foreshadowing continued.

“I have a feeling this stadium is going to look real ugly in the second half,” Steven Peake continued.

Right when things looked half-decent for the Cats, another end-of-half meltdown ensued, and with the snap of a finger, it was 42-21 in the third quarter as Big Blue Nation spilled out of Kroger Field.

The feedback was to be expected.

“Tired of our hearts being ripped out,” one fan said. “They used to say there wasn’t much of a path upwards for our football program, but you see Vanderbilt, you see Indiana doing what they’re doing. This is a new era. There’s no excuse. There is no excuse for us, we’ve got to figure it out. I used to be a believer in Stoops, but I think it’s time for a change. It’s so heartbreaking, man. To see everybody leaving at the beginning of the third quarter? It’s awful.”

“You have to fire him, I don’t know, tonight? Before he can get to the locker room? Tomorrow morning? Whenever, get ahead of the hiring curve,” another added. “Coaching carousel is going to be crazy, this can’t be done anymore. Bring in Will Stein, Jon Sumrall — anyone but this. This is miserable.”

Peake ran back inside with the score sitting at 56-27 to get a look at the crowd, which was totally empty outside of full pockets of orange. Oh, and then for good measure, a loud-and-proud “KSR SUCKS!” from a Tennessee fan.

Eh, agreed.

How late did the KSR crew get out of the press box this time? Again, after 1 AM — we suck, but we definitely work hard.

Take a look back at a very sad (and unsurprising) night in Lexington:
