Rise and shine, Kentucky fans. Today is Thursday, August 3, only 30 days out from the home opener in Kroger Field. Only 30 days away from walking through CATS chants in the parking lot on the way into Kentucky versus Ball State, Devin Leary’s debut game. Only 30 days from the sweet sounds of Carl Nathe’s “First Down Kentucky!” and–new to 2023–an ice-cold beer in the cheap seats.

30 days and 30 sleeps from Football Time In The Bluegrass, my friends.

Let’s talk some ball and the latest news around UK Athletics and the Bluegrass…

Day 2 at Kentucky Football’s Fall Camp

Over at the Joe Craft Football Training Facility, Kentucky Football began Day 2 of fall camp on a rainy morning in Lexington. The team is still in the beginning phase of the preseason when contact is limited, but on Wednesday the Wildcats were on the practice fields with their coaches for the first time.

UK’s social media team gave fans a brief, behind-the-scenes look:

Remember, KSR+ and KSBoard are on sale for one American dollar during Kentucky’s fall camp.

Wednesday’s Yahtzee

Yesterday, Kentucky secured a commitment from Steven Soles, a talented high school linebacker from outside the Knoxville area. Soles pledged his college commitment to the Wildcats over other attractive opportunities–places like Virginia Tech and Mississippi State, among others.

At 6-foot-2, 215 pounds, Soles was recruited to help at the EDGE position in Lexington, where a couple of other high-profile names are still being targeted in the Class of 2024. For more on the addition of Soles, read KSR’s new Film Room scouting report on his game out of Powell High School in Powell, Tennessee.

The commitment brought Kentucky’s 2024 recruiting haul up to fifteen.

The Dice May Stay Hot

Tomorrow, Kentucky is expected to land a commitment from a highly-ranked Class of 2025 prospect when Stone Saunders announces his college decision. A four-star QB in the high school junior class, Saunders is ready to wrap up his recruitment Friday evening, and his connection to Liam Coen has the ‘Cats in good standing on Stone Saunders Eve.

The two-year starter from Pennsylvania holds other scholarship offers from Nebraska, Texas A&M, Michigan, Louisville, and Georgia, to name a few. He will go public with his decision at 6:25 p.m. on ABC27 in Harrisburg.

Kentucky Football Media Day

Friday is also a significant day for the hardworking people who cover UK Athletics (that’s us!) because the football program will welcome the media onto the grounds of Kroger Field for Kentucky Football Media Day 2023. The fun will begin tomorrow morning with comments from Mark Stoops, followed by conversations with Brad White, Liam Coen, and every player on the roster.

This means KentuckySportsRadio.com will be loaded with football content all the way through kickoff next month. So, keep checking back here for the latest news and subscribe to the KSR YouTube Channel for press conferences, interviews, original shows, fan features, and exclusive content.

Tomorrow will be a busy one.

New “Listicuffs” w/ Tom Hart and Cole Cubelic

Speaking of KSR on YouTube, a new episode of “Listicuffs” premieres tonight with two very special guests going head-to-head on KSR’s original game show. In one corner, from ESPN and SEC Network, Tom Hart will make his Season 3 debut against his ESPN and SEC Network colleague, Cole Cubelic, in Cubelic’s first-ever “Listicuffs” appearance.

The show goes live at 5 p.m.

Mission Impossible: Tyler Childers Tickets

Yesterday, Tyler Childers pre-sold tickets to his two-night New Year’s Eve extravaganza at Rupp Arena later this year. I, unfortunately, did not win the drawing to participate. But, today is a new day for Tyler Childers fans as his Rupp Arena shows go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m.

Good luck to you (and to me).

Eastern KY Little League Send-Off

At 10:30 a.m. in Lexington’s Ecton Park, the Eastern Little League will board the team bus for their trip to the Great Lakes Regional in Whitestown, Indiana, where they will represent Kentucky in playing for a spot at the Little League World Series.

If you’re unable to make the send-off, show your support at Sunday’s game watch party at KSBar and Grille. The first game is Sunday at 4 p.m. on ESPN+.

Kentucky-Louisville Basketball Date

We now know when Kentucky and Louisville will play this upcoming college basketball season. Yesterday, habitual scoop-breaker Jon Rothstein shared that he heard the annual rivalry game will be played on Thursday, December 21, at the KFC Yum! Center.

The game is a little earlier in the calendar year to avoid conflict with college football’s busy bowl schedule around the Christmas and New Year holidays.

TikToker in Kroger Field and Rupp Arena

I’ll leave you with the TikToker who travels the country to see if he can sneak onto the playing fields of Division I football stadiums. Yesterday, he hit Lexington for an attempt at Kroger Field, plus a bonus stop at Rupp Arena.

KSR does not support this behavior, but it is interesting.

@gfed33 You talked, I listened. Although I just dipped my toe in, our first stop into SEC country is complete . . . . #kentuckywildcats #kentucky #kentuckyfootball #collegefootball ♬ original sound – Gfed
@gfed33 When you go to a basketball school, you make a seperate video for the basketball court. Lets see what I can do at Rupp Arena . . . . #kentucky #ukbasketball #kentuckybasketball #collegebasketball ♬ original sound – Gfed

Now go have the best Thursday.

But don’t do any breaking and/or entering.
