We did it! Football is BACK. Well, technically, talking about football is back. Listen, it’s a long summer. We don’t need to get caught up in technicalities. Talking Season is here and it’s a great reminder that the game we love is right around the corner.

The Big 12 kicked things off in Texas with their media days, and like all media days, there are usually a couple of stories that permeate to the top of national headlines. It should not surprise you that Commissioner Brett Yormark grandstanded for his league, calling it the deepest league in college football. For folks who closely follow CFP changes and conference realignment, your ears perked up when you heard him throw a jab at Tony Petiti.

None of that moves the needle compared to the bomb Scott Frost dropped. He flopped in the most beautifully catastrophic way at his alma mater, Nebraska, going 0-13 against Top 25 teams and 5-22 in one-score games. When he was asked why it didn’t work out, it should not surprise you that he took no blame whatsoever.

“Don’t take the wrong job,” was the lesson he learned at Nebraska. “I said I wouldn’t leave (UCF) unless it was someplace you could win a national championship. I got tugged in a direction to try to help my alma mater and didn’t really want to do it. It wasn’t a good move. I’m lucky to get back to a place where I was a lot happier.”

Of all the responses, that was one of them.

A Preview of Talking Season in the SEC

Kentucky will enter the Talking Season fray in a little more than a week. Tight end Josh Kattus, defensive back Jordan Lovett, and linebacker Alex Afari will accompany Mark Stoops to Atlanta next week for the final day of the event.

The Wildcats will not dominate headlines from the College Football Hall of Fame, but we will find more than enough to get Big Blue Nation motivated. Until then, start preparing for the SEC-wide talking points, starting with this definitive ranking of quarterbacks around the league.

Kentucky Basketball Intervenes in Talking Season

Typically, Talking Season only applies to the sport of college football in the months leading into the season. The Kentucky basketball team is finding time on the airwaves, too.

On Tuesday, Jayden Quaintance and Kam Williams took turns speaking into the microphone. JQ provided an update on his rehab and shared some tantalizing details on what the Cats can accomplish next season.

The Best Kentucky Basketball Summer Highlight So Far

You’ve seen all of the compilations. The quick-cuts of dunks and jumpers are fun, but they don’t tell a story. We got one on Tuesday and it was a doozy.

The stakes were high in the scrimmage. The winner got a new pair of Kobes. The game appeared to be going into overtime until Malachi Moreno hit an 80-foot prayer. Incredible.

Good News for the Bat Cats

Most roster news this time of year is about new additions. The Kentucky baseball program got a big addition by not subtracting from its roster. Jaxon Jelkin was a ninth-round pick a year ago. Unfortunately, an elbow injury prevented him from pitching for the Bat Cats this spring. Instead of testing his salt in the Major Leagues, the righty is returning to Lexington as a potential weekend starter.

SportsCenter is in Louisville

SportsCenter is taking its show on the road this summer. ESPN’s flagship show will broadcast from 50 states in 50 days. University of Kentucky grad Michael Eaves will be at the Louisville Slugger Museum, with live hits starting at noon, culminating with the 6 PM edition of the show.

Kentucky Volleyball Earns Preseason Recognition

We are just over a month away from the first exhibition of the 2025 Kentucky volleyball season. Craig Skinner has won eight straight SEC titles. The league’s coaches are predicting that the Wildcats will get their ninth in a row. Kentucky received nine of the 16 first-place votes, while Texas tallied six. Kentucky also had more Preseason All-SEC Selections than any other program, with four of the top 15 players: Brooke Bultema, Brooklyn DeLeye, Eva Hudson, and Molly Tuozzo.
