KSR Today: First Kentucky Football Practice of 2024

What are six words every Kentucky fan loves to hear? It’s Football Time in the Bluegrass.
The day has finally come. Your University of Kentucky Wildcats are making their triumphant return to the practice fields to begin preparing for the 2024 football season. The action begins with a pair of helmets-only practices before they put on shoulder pads Friday afternoon. We’ll speak with the team Friday morning at UK Football Media Day.
Since only helmets are involved, the first days of practice primarily serve as a mental challenge. How well can the Wildcats keep their emotions in check and still execute during the early days of the install? They’ll juggle mental obstacles while position competitions begin in earnest. After an offseason that was filled with news not directly related to play on the field, Mark Stoops welcomes the return to the gridiron with his team.

Kentucky Football Q&A
Since we can’t speak with the team after the first day of Kentucky football practice, it feels like there is an enormous void that needs to be filled for such a momentous occasion. We’re filling that by answering Big Blue Nation’s Kentucky football questions. What do you need to know about this year’s Cats? Head on over to KSBoard at noon for a candid Q&A with the KSR football crew.
July is Over?!?
Yes, today is July 31. It’s hard to believe that the summer sports drought is nearing an end. Sure, there will be a slow week or two before college football games officially kick off, but for the most part, we made it through the summer without ever taking a break from sports.
The Bat Cats delivered a historic run to the College World Series, followed by a surprisingly entertaining TBT run for La Familia. Now we’re in the midst of the Olympics. It feels like there hasn’t been a dull moment, even in the month of July, and that’s wonderful.
Conversations with Kentucky Wildcats
While most folks were still basking in La Familia’s win over The Ville, the wheels kept burning and turning over at the Joe Craft Center. Zack Geoghegan seemingly spent all day over there. Kenny Brooks invited the media to have summer conversations with the new members of the Kentucky WBB team just a few hours before we spoke with Koby Brea, Jaxson Robinson, and Trent Noah.
USA Basketball Back in Action
USA Basketball received a scare from South Sudan before the Summer Olympics tipped off in Paris. Wenyen Gabriel couldn’t tip the ball in to secure a massive upset in the international tune-up game. Now Team USA gets a chance at revenge. Bam Adebayo, Devin Booker, and Anthony Davis are in action this afternoon at 3 pm EST. The Americans are 29.5-point favorites a week after almost losing straight up as 49.5-point favorites.

Today’s Kentucky Olympic Schedule

This is My Kinda Olympic Content
I have only briefly watched the surfing competition. It gets a little too repetitive for my short attention span, however, I am completely captivated every time NBC rings up Colin Jost for a report from Tahiti. Most folks are not fans of SNL and I am not most folks. Jost’s dry humor is amusing and he is so clearly uncomfortable in this setting. I can’t tell how much of it is a bit or if he is truly miserable. Either way, I can’t stop watching.

Happy Birthday Tim Couch!
Few players have created a seismic shift in the sport of college football and that’s exactly what the Leslie County kid did during his time at Kentucky as the orchestrator of the Air Raid offense. The record-breaking quarterback turns 47 today, just a few months before he becomes the eighth former Wildcat enshrined into the College Football Hall of Fame.
