KSR Today: Kentucky Football Kicks Off Fall Camp
It’s officially football time in the Bluegrass. Today the Kentucky football team will hit the practice fields and open fall camp for the 2025 season.
Kentucky has 32 days to prepare for the season opener against Toledo. There’s a lot to do.
Following a 4-8 campaign, Mark Stoops flipped the roster by adding 50 new players, including 26 from the transfer portal. Most of those new players are on the offensive side of the line of scrimmage. The personnel has changed, but there is some continuity in the scheme. Offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan is back for year two, something that hasn’t happened since the pandemic.
These Wildcats aren’t starting from scratch either. New rule changes allowed for teams to participate in workouts in June with the coaches, in what UK describes as OTAs. It eliminates the growing pains of how to successfully navigate practice and learn the playbook. After a couple of practices in helmets, they will finish the week by popping shoulder pads. It feels good to be back.
To celebrate the start of fall camp, we’re hosting a Kentucky football Q&A over at KSBoard beginning at noon. Any and all questions about the team are on the table. If you need juice, come find us, because we’re gonna be here all night.
You Can See the Kentucky Football In Action
We will have to wait a few days to receive updates from the Wildcats. Mark Stoops spoke on Monday, but the rest of Kentucky Football Media Day will take place Friday morning at Kroger Field. Following the interviews, the media will get a glimpse of practice. 11 Personnel will share everything we learned after all of the action wraps up.
You can see what the new team looks like on Saturday. The Wildcats will host an open practice at the Joe Craft Football Training Facility for Kentucky Football Fan Day. The practice will run from 11 am to approximately 12:45 pm. Admission is free and the gates will open near Gate 12 at 10 am.

Each summer, there are a few things that create an itch you just can’t scratch without watching football. One came from an unexpected source earlier this week. It came from a YouTube comment. Teaking701 is ready for college football chaos.

Congrats on your 5-star recruits and $100M facilities, SEC fans. Meanwhile, the MAC is out here playing real football in front of 14 people and a raccoon on a Tuesday night during a blizzard. You ever seen a punter throw a touchdown to a long snapper while the scoreboard’s on fire? Didn’t think so.
While y’all are busy arguing over which frat-funded dynasty is slightly less fraudulent, Toledo’s cooking up a triple-reverse flea flicker in a game that ends 43–42 after six missed PATs and a goalpost gets stolen. That’s not football. That’s MACtion. You wouldn’t survive one quarter in Ypsilanti.
Kentucky Basketball Updates on Sources Say
While most of our attention is on the upcoming Kentucky football season, the basketball team is hard at work on the other side of campus. Jack Pilgrim couldn’t wait another week to talk about what Mark Pope’s Wildcats are up to. He took a break from paternity leave to share what he’s heard about the Kentucky basketball summer workouts on Sources Say.
Kentucky Basketball Hosts an Official Visitor
Campus isn’t packed with students, but that isn’t stopping Mark Pope from recruiting. Today he’s hosting an official visitor, Sayon Keita. The 7-footer plays for FC Barcelona Lassa B (Bamako). He’s currently touring all of the bluest bloods in college basketball. Over the next week, he’ll be making stops at Kansas, Indiana, Duke, North Carolin, and UConn.
KSBar is Now Hiring
KSBar took a summer break to freshen up. After a handful of years in business, it was time to make some changes. Your favorite Lexington watering hole is preparing to reopen ahead of the 2025 college football season and we need your help.
KSBar will be conducting open interviews on Friday, Aug. 1, from 10 am-2 pm. We’re hiring all positions: bartenders, servers, bussers, food runners, prep cooks, line cooks, dishwashers, and hosts. Come join the KSBar family.
Shannon the Dude Bounces a First Pitch
Even though Kentucky Sports Radio is not a baseball-first organization, we have quite a few diamond dogs on staff. Ryan Lemond was a star base-stealer at Kentucky Wesleyan, and Shannon the Dude dabbled at Lindsey Wilson and Bellarmine. The World Heavyweight Radio Champion took the mound to throw out the first pitch at the Lexington Legends game and delivered this. Ouch.
John Michael Montgomery Joins KSR
John Michael Montgomery is a country music legend. The Danville native began his road to superstardom in 1992. This week, he announced The Road Home Tour will be his last, and he’s finishing his career where it started. The Dec. 12 show at Rupp Arena will be his last. Before he says farewell, he’s speaking with Big Blue Nation this morning on Kentucky Sports Radio. Don’t miss it.
