Oakmont Country Club has the reputation of being the toughest golf course in the U.S. Open rotation. The Western Pennsylvania club lived up to that expectation through the first 36 holes of the national championship. There is carnage everywhere.

A first-round 66 by J.J. Spaun (No. 25 in the world) and a second-round 65 by Sam Burns (No. 22 in the world) has placed them at the top of the leaderboard. Everywhere else there has been some ugly golf. Top players Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Jon Rahm each posted consecutive rounds over par but might not be out of this tournament yet because some more carnage is on the way.

Before everyone gets locked and loaded for the tournament on Father’s Day, this event might just be won on moving day out at Oakmont. Round three coverage begins at 10:00 a.m. ET on USA and will shift over to NBC at high noon.

KSR Today is here for the major championship golf but also must recap what was an unexpected eventful week for our modest website after a shocking moving by Vince Marrow on Monday.

The Big Dog completes a Louisville radio car wash

We had to wait until Friday to hear Vince Marrow go on record, but in true Vince Marrow fashion, he did it big. Louisville’s new executive director of player personnel and recruiting jumped on the airwaves with Drew Deener (ESPN 680), Michael Bennett (Big X Sports), and Terry Meiners (840 WHAS) to appear on all of the big stations in Louisville. How did WAMZ not get an interview?

Marrow mostly touched on the same topics in each interview but there was a lot to unpack. We’ve got you covered if you missed the craziness yesterday.

I have a feeling what was expected to be a boring summer does not end up all that boring now. Expect to hear more about Marrow and Kentucky crossing paths now. The next battles will likely occur on the recruiting trail.

Kentucky promotes Derek Shay to tight ends coach

Kentucky had to move quickly to find a new tight ends coach after Vince Marrow’s sudden departure. That move was made public on Friday afternoon. Former Marshall tight ends coach Derek Shay is the new tight ends coach in Lexington.

Derek Shay joined the Kentucky football program in a support staff role in 2024. Shay, 34, worked with Bush Hamdan as an offensive analyst at Missouri in 2022. The Illinois native spent the 2023 season as the tight ends coach at Marshall.

KSR will have more on this hire later today as Kentucky’s coaching staff is now locked and loaded for the 2024 season. Now let’s get back to recruiting.

Kentucky lands another offensive tackle

Over at KSR+, we have been on commitment watch for Cameron Miller since May. That wait finally ended on Friday afternoon. Offensive line coach Eric Wolford has recorded another recruiting win for the program.

The Chicagoland prospect officially came off the board by picking the Cats over Indiana, Purdue, and West Virginia.

Kentucky now has two true offensive tackles in the 2026 high school class with Miller joining Paducah (Ky.) Tilghman star Jarvis Strickland. KSR will have more on what kind of player Kentucky has added with Miller later. Who will be the next target to commit? Get to KSBoard.

We’re off and running in Omaha

The 2025 College World Series officially got started on Friday in Omaha. Unlike most of the tournament, there were no upsets on the opening night. Both national seeds moved on with No. 13 Coastal Carolina knocking off Arizona (7-4) and No. 8 Oregon State squeaking out a one-run win over Louisville (4-3). The Chants and Beavers will move to the winners bracket. Arizona and Louisville will face-off in the losers bracket on Sunday afternoon.

The rest of the field will be in action today at Charles Schwab Field. No. 3 Arkansas will face No. 6 LSU in the nightcap but Murray State will get their first appearance on the big stage at 1:00 p.m. ET when the Racers face No. 15 UCLA.

Can this cinderella run continue on the dirt?

The NBA/Stanley Cup Finals roll on

The Oklahoma City Thunder found itself in a near must-win situation in Game 4 against the Indiana Pacers. The NBA MVP made sure that his team did not lose consecutive games.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander dropped 35 points in the 111-104 as OKC blitzed Indiana 31-17 in the fourth quarter to knot this series up. The series now returns to Oklahoma for Game 5 on Monday. Did Indiana lose a title in that final quarter?

The Stanley Cup finals return to Canada for Game 5 on Saturday night with the series tied at 2 after a thrilling overtime Game 4 win by the Edmonton Oilers in South Florida. This one feels like it’s going to a Game 7. The action get started on the ice at 8 p.m. ET on TNT.
