Kentucky Sports Radio is the home for Kentucky sports news in the most ridiculous manner possible. Today that is transforming to the home of Kentucky political theater. From 8-10 am on affiliates across the Commonwealth, the top Republican gubernatorial candidates (sans Daniel Cameron) will gather at an undisclosed location for the KSR GOP Primary Debate.

Every media outlet from around the state will be on hand for the two hours of political discourse hosted by Matt Jones. He’s not the only one guiding the conversation with Mike Harmon, Ryan Quarles, Kelly Craft and Alan Keck. Candidates will have an opportunity to ask one question to their competition. Drew Franklin and Ryan Lemond will also get to ask one question. Ryan also holds another important responsibility: he is the KSR debate’s timer. On Tuesday he practiced and finished his first attempt by telling a caller, “Stop. EAT IT!” It’s a good thing he practiced.

For registered Republicans, this will be your best opportunity to learn more about the people you can vote for in the May 16th primary election. A platform unlike any other, one prospective candidate can use this opportunity to become Andy Beshear’s top challenger in the general election this November. Grab your popcorn and prepare for an eventful morning on Kentucky Sports Radio.

The action begins at 7 pm, but during the last go around, tables were filled by 6:40. Arrive early or call ahead (859-554-6081) to reserve your table for your an enjoyable night with the KSR crew.

Thanks to Our Friends at SERVPRO of Lexington

Now a message from the great team at SERVPRO of Lexington. They tend to fire and water damage, mold remediation, storm damage, commercial clean up and demolition.

They are locally owned and operated so they are part of your community.

The team at SERVPRO knows that a disaster doesn’t strike at convenient times. That is why they offer 24 hour emergency service.

Our team at KSR recently had a first hand account of their highly trained restoration technicians. While we didn’t experience an emergency, we had some unwelcome visitors to our office (BIRDS!). The office space didn’t have ideal work conditions as the birds made a mess all over the furniture, floors, and carpet. We called SERVPRO and they were at our office in an hour. We were on their schedule the next work day. The managers and technicians were top notch professionals. The office was absolutely spotless. They also wanted to make sure they reviewed the space with us before they left to ensure our satisfaction.

We highly recommend the team at SERVPRO for both commercial and residential services. Give them a call at 859-225-3193 or visit https://www.servprolexingtonky.com. Tell them KSR sent you. That’s SERVPRO of Lexington, faster to any size disaster!

Kentucky Baseball Picks Up a Win at Home

Hunter Gilliam hit a pair of Big Blue Bombs Tuesday night at Kentucky Proud Park that combined to measure 871 feet. Known for scoring via small ball, the No. 11 Wildcats went big in a 13-2 midweek win over Xavier. Gilliam ended his six-RBI night with his second homer that served as a walk-off in the run rule win.

Jackson Gray went 3-for-4 with two runs, a walk and stolen base, while Emilien Pitre added two hits, two runs, two RBIs and a walk. Pitcher Travis Smith picked up his third win of the season. Enjoy the highlights and read more in Daniel Hager’s recap.

2 NBA Playoff Series Even Out

The NBA Playoffs are getting real. The Celtics proved you don’t need to pay attention to their series against the Hawks, while the Cavs and Suns fought back. Cleveland won by 17 points to bring the series back to Madison Square Garden evened up. The Suns ran away from the Clippers in game two, thanks to 38 points from Devin Booker.

6 Former Kentucky Wildcats in the NBA Playoffs

There are three NBA playoff games Wednesday night with at least one Wildcat in every single game. Unfortunately, Tyler Herro is not one of them. The Miami Heat shooting guard is sidelined 4-6 weeks after breaking his hand in game one against the Bucks, effectively ending his season. Even though he’s out, here’s when you can catch the rest of the Cats:

  • 7:30 on TNT: Grizzlies vs. Lakers (Anthony Davis, Jarred Vanderbilt, Wenyen Gabriel)
  • 9:00 on NBATV: Bucks vs. Heat (Bam Adebayo)
  • 10:00 on TV: Timberwolves (Karl-Anthony Towns) vs. Nuggets (Jamal Murray)

Kentucky Coaches on the Road Recruiting

It’s a great time of the year to be on the road for Kentucky football and basketball coaches. During his travels to Virginia Brad White offered a scholarship to Ari Watford, the second-ranked EDGE and No. 22 overall prospect in the 2025 recruiting class. Meanwhile, John Calipari is on the move in the Northeast. After visiting Tre Johnson and Flory Bidunga, he was back in Camden, New Jersey to check in on Billy Richmond.

Churchill Downs New Paddock Taking Shape

Construction has become a constant beneath the Twin Spires over the last decade and this year is no exception. After completing new seats and suites on the first turn, Churchill Downs Inc. turned its attention to the dated paddock. The $200 million coliseum will not be complete until Kentucky Derby 150, but we will see a shell of it for Kentucky Derby 149. It does not have all of the bells and whistles, but it does appear to make it easier for large crowds to maneuver throughout the aging racecourse on the First Saturday in May.
