Good morning, folks! Today is the day… Sports gambling will be made LEGAL in the state of Kentucky in just an hour. Sports betting officially goes live at 10:00 a.m. EST. Governor Andy Beshear will make the ceremonial first bet at Churchill Downs. This is only for in-person betting though — mobile betting does not go live until Thursday, Sept. 28. A friendly reminder that you must be 21 years of age to participate.

If you’re jonesing to make that first bet, here are the places you can do so:

  • Churchill Downs (700 Central Ave., Louisville)
  • Derby City Gaming (4520 Poplar Level Road, Louisville)
  • Ellis Park (3300 US Hwy 41 N, Henderson)
  • The Mint Gaming Hall Cumberland (244 Penny Lane, Williamsburg)
  • The Mint Gaming Hall Cumberland Run (777 Winners Lane, Corbin)
  • Newport Racing & Gaming (1723 Monmouth St., Newport)
  • Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel (777 Winners Way, Oak Grove)
  • The Red Mile (1200 Red Mile Road, Lexington)
  • Turfway Park Racing & Gaming (7500 Turfway Road, Florence)

Although you won’t be able to bet on UK-EKU until a little later (FCS vs. FBS lines aren’t usually released until the day before kickoff), you can still put some money down this morning for this week’s NFL and college football action. Speaking of EKU…

We’re just two more sleeps away from Kentucky clashing with the Colonels in the second game of the regular season. The Wildcats cruised to a 44-14 win last week against Ball State, but not without some hiccups along the way. Kentucky will look to remedy those mistakes with what should be a warmup challenge against EKU.

In preparation for Saturday’s 3:30 p.m. EST kickoff, head coach Mark Stoops hopped on the SEC Teleconference on Wednesday to talk about the Colonels. Later in the day, we heard from defensive coordinator Brad White and junior linebacker Trevin Wallace. They all had plenty to say about EKU and what to expect come gameday.

Adam Luckett also has a deep-dive preview of the Colonels that you can read here. Nick Roush has a full post-practice report from Wednesday here.

11 Personnel previews EKU

When Kentucky takes on EKU this weekend, they’ll do against some familiar faces. Former Kentucky players Maxwell Smith (QB) and CJ Conrad (TE) are now on the Colonels’ coaching staff and will coach against the ‘Cats on Saturday. Conrad, in particular, is a very familiar face, as he was on the Kentucky staff last season as a graduate assistant for the Wildcats. He joined KSR’s Nick Roush and Adam Luckett on the latest edition of 11 Personnel, which you can watch below. Among the topics of discussion…

  • Cleaning up the first exciting week of CFB action
  • The Final day without sports gambling in Kentucky
  • EKU has one of the best quarterbacks Kentucky will face all season
  • Close connections between the Cats and Colonels

Let’s soak in the Ball State win one more time…

The good people with UK’s video production team put out another heater of a video this week with an in-depth, behind-the-scenes recap of last weekend’s win over Ball State. It’s the perfect appetizer for another weekend of football in the Bluegrass.

Tickets for MBB vs. Penn go on sale this morning

Planning a trip to Philly in December to catch Kentucky men’s basketball in action against Penn? Then today is an important one for you. Tickets for that game at the Wells Fargo Center go on sale this morning at 10 a.m. EST on Ticketmaster. Tipoff is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 9. at noon EST and it will air on ESPN2.

“Having the chance to play in a sports-crazed city like Philadelphia and against one of the all-time winningest programs in college basketball is a tremendous opportunity for our program and our fans,” UK head coach John Calipari said late last month. “It’s been awhile since we’ve played in the Philly area, so I’m excited for D.J. (Wagner), Aaron (Bradshaw), Justin (Edwards) and Kareem (Watkins) to be able to play close to home.”

You can purchase tickets starting in one hour through the link here.

Saturday’s football game is on the app

Saturday’s game is a computer game — or an app game, if you will. The only way you can watch Kentucky host Eastern Kentucky this weekend is through the SEC Network+ and ESPN+, which requires a subscription. The good news is you don’t have to mess with a cable provider to make it happen, so if you are still teamed up with Spectrum for whatever reason, you can still watch this game — but if you do still use Spectrum and don’t go through an app, you won’t be able to watch. An ESPN+ account will cost you $9.99 per month.

You can watch the game on smartphones, tablets, TV-connected devices (Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast, SmartTV, etc.), or via espn.com/watch. You can also listen to the UK Sports Network radio broadcast for free on the UK Athletics App, on a computer at UKAthletics.com, or on UK Sports Network radio affiliates, including WBUL 98.1 FM/630 WLAP AM in Lexington.

My advice? Just get YouTubeTV. It’ll solve all of the above issues.

The ’23-24 Kentucky WBB schedule is here

The Southeastern Conference announced all 14 team’s schedules for the upcoming 2023-24 women’s basketball season on Wednesday. Of note, Kentucky will take on South Carolina, Arkansas, and Mississippi State twice for home-and-homes with a road matchup against defending national champion LSU to close out the schedule. The only thing we don’t know yet is the home location for SEC games, as Memorial Coliseum is undergoing construction — but everything else is finalized.
