We’ve known what this Kentucky basketball team might look like for months. We finally got to see the pieces of the puzzle put together, in fragments, at UK Pro Day.

Like many of the Kentucky basketball preseason events, this is just an appetizer. Appetizers can be outstanding. Who doesn’t love a few wings and some cheese logs? But the thing about appetizers, they don’t fully satisfy your hunger. That’s what it feels like watching UK Pro Day.

The two-hour event at Historic Memorial Coliseum was essentially a practice, filled with individual drills before the team scrimmaged for about 30 minutes or so. While many fans were probably left wanting more, it was still more than enough time to learn more about Mark Pope’s second Kentucky basketball team.

Standout Kentucky Wildcats

Jaland Lowe — We all know Otega Oweh is The Guy, but he can’t do it all by himself. Can the former Pitt point guard elevate his game in Lexington? After spending last year taking difficult shots, the shot-making was not an issue in front of pro scouts, where he seemed to make more from long range than he missed, a promising sign for a team whose outside shooting is in question.

Andrija Jelavic — Hey! We got to see Andrija Jelavic! Up until this point, it was just pixelated clips of highlights from games abroad. On Tuesday night, we actually got to see him in action. He admitted on Media Day that when he first arrived, he was drinking from a firehose (but not eating Papa John’s). A light has turned on and that was clear. Jelavic looked comfortable on the court and was a confident shot-maker.

Braydon Hawthorne — Similar to Jelavic, Hawthorne is a bit of a mystery. The former West Virginia commit got onto Kentucky’s radar late in the process. His length is out of this world, and even though he still has a lot of room to fill in, he’s so smooth on the basketball court. It will take some time for the cake to bake, but Hawthorne has a bright future as he grows and develops in Pope’s program.

Different Forms of Discipline

Not only did we get a glimpse of the good, we got to see what happens when things go wrong at one of Mark Pope’s practices. For Andrija Jelavic, that meant spending some time running the stairs to the top of Historic Memorial Coliseum. For Brandon Garrison, it meant bear crawling down the sideline after fouling on a three. Drew Franklin showed us exactly what that looked like in KSR’s Rapid Reaction.

But Wait – THERE’S MORE!

That was the rapid, Rapid Reaction. We couldn’t just spend 10 minutes talking about how everything unfolded at Historic Memorial Coliseum. Jack, Zack, and the rest of the Sources Say crew spent an hour breaking down everything they saw form all of the Wildcats at UK Pro Day on a new Sources Say.

Updates from the Kentucky Football Team

Bye weeks change up the schedule for the Kentucky football team. They’re still practicing almost every day of the week, with good on good to provide more experienced reps, but we only check in with them once, rather than three times. That day is today when Mark Stoops will speak with the media following Wednesday’s practice. He’ll also answer some questions this afternoon on the SEC Coaches Teleconference. We’ll share all of the illuminating insight right here, and talk more ball with a new edition of 11 Personnel on the KSR YouTube Channel.

Kentucky gets a UFL Team

Football Time in the Bluegrass will be at a different time. The UFL is bringing spring football to the Commonwealth when the Louisville Kings hit the gridiron in 2026. The Kings of Louisville are one of three new cities in the mix, as Columbus and Orlando replaced franchises in Detroit, San Antonio, and Memphis. The games will be played at a beautiful venue, Lynn Family Stadium, where they’ll share the pitch with Louisville’s two pro soccer teams. Will it work? It’s hard to tell, but it should be a good time when pads are popping this spring.

A Rough Day in Louisville

It was a soggy Tuesday across many portions of the Bluegrass, with some folks experiencing as much as six inches of rain in a matter of hours. The localized flooding forced Jefferson County Public Schools to cancel after-school activities. It was rough for some, but nobody had it as rough as this guy. No worries. Everyone was able to walk away from the accident without requiring medical attention.

A Win for Kentucky Golf

The rain couldn’t keep the Cats off the links, well, for at least 36 holes. The Cullan Brown Invitational at Lexington Country Club was cut short by the inclement weather. Cole Stockard completed his second round with a birdie to finish 6-under, good enough to secure a victory in the freshman’s third start. The Wildcats finished second as a team, one shot behind the victors, Mississippi State. KSR’s Crawford Ifland snapped a few photos on the course of the action.
