The marathon continues with KSR’s one bet for every game in the NCAA Tournament. Through 48 games, we aren’t down to the house, which is nice; however, we aren’t up on the house, either. Picks for the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament closed at a very uneventful 23-23-2 record, even money in the books.

Hey, a push is a win.

This week, we aim to get back in the green with one bet for each Sweet 16 game on MyBookie.ag. You can do your betting there, too. If you do, use promo code KSR for a sign-up bonus. Scroll down for more details on that special offer.

Now for the play on each game over the next two days…

THURSDAY

No. 1 Gonzaga vs. No. 4 Arkansas | 7:09 p.m. | CBS

The SEC’s last-standing team relies too much on JD Notae to advance past a complete, high-scoring team like the Gonzaga Bulldogs, the tournament’s No. 1 overall seed. A bad matchup for charge-machine Jaylin Williams, he is unlikely to get those slide-under charge calls against March Madness darling Drew Timme and star freshman Chet Holmgren. Further, Gonzaga will happily play at Arkansas’s speed and Arkansas doesn’t have the outside shooting to keep up on the scoreboard. Gonzaga wins big.

Full disclosure, there is some deep-rooted hatred for Arkansas Basketball behind this pick.

The Bet: Gonzaga -9.5 (-110)

Result: LOSER (Arkansas, 74-68)

No. 2 Villanova vs. No. 11 Michigan | 7:29 p.m. | TBS

Too many bets are won and lost at the free throw line late in games. With that in mind, I want the best free throw shooting team in the country, Villanova, in case Michigan hangs around in the end. The Wildcats shoot 82.6 percent as a team, on pace to break the 1984 Harvard team’s NCAA record of 82.19 percent. When not at the line, Villanova has one of the most efficient offenses in the country.

The Bet: Villanova -5 (-110)

Result: WINNER (Villanova, 63-55)

No. 2 Duke vs. No. 3 Texas Tech | 9:39 p.m. | CBS

This game is a pick ’em with even odds on each side (-110) and no points given either way. Duke is the tempting pick for its roster of NBA potential, but Texas Tech is much more experienced and plays the best defense in the country. Duke and its star player, Paolo Banchero, will be forced to take shots from the perimeter. The Blue Devils might make enough to keep Coach K’s career alive, but I’ll trust Texas Tech’s defense enough to have more faith in the under and not sweat the winning team. Go Texas Tech though.

The Bet: Under 137 (-110)

Result: LOSER (151 total)

No. 1 Arizona vs. No. 5 Houston | 9:59 p.m. | TBS

KenPom’s second (Houston) and third (Arizona) ranked teams meet in the Sweet 16 in an early collision of Final Four contenders. I’ve changed my mind 14 times about which side of the 1.5-point spread I want to be on, so I’ll take a risk on the under because Arizona’s unique size and length inside will take away a lot of Houston’s strengths. When Arizona has the ball, Houston’s defense is more than capable of giving Bennedict Mathurin fits but will be outsized inside. I think I like Arizona -1.5, but for the sake of this exercise let’s cheer for defense.

The Bet: Under 145 (-110)

Result: WINNER (132 total)

THURSDAY’S RECORD: 2-2

FRIDAY

No. 3 Purdue vs. No. 15 Saint Peter’s | 7:09 p.m. | CBS

I’ve been wrong in betting against the Peacocks twice already and I am not making that mistake a third time. Saint Peter’s has proven it is fearless and Purdue, though good, isn’t more intimidating than anything Saint Peter’s has already sent home. Purdue will win because of its enormous size advantage inside, where Saint Peter’s has thrived, but the Jersey boys land enough punches to cover the 12.5 points.

The Bet: Saint Peter’s +12.5 (-110)

No. 1 Kansas vs. No. 4 Providence | 7:29 p.m. | TBS

Kansas is always good for an NCAA Tournament choke job and a run-in with Ed Cooley’s veteran Providence team seems like a chance for Jayhawks fans to sweat a little bit. Providence is in the second weekend of the tournament for the first time since 1997 and the Friars will bring a fight to Chicago to play the Midwest Region’s No. 1 team. Kansas will win, but Providence will muck it up enough to stay within the seven and a half.

The Bet: Providence +7.5 (-115)

No. 4 UCLA vs. No. 8 North Carolina | 9:39 p.m. | CBS

Mick Cronin’s UCLA Bruins will reach a second straight Elite Eight with a win over under-seeded North Carolina, or that’s what we need to happen to cash the one bet on this game. I’m siding with Playoff Juzang and UCLA’s attack over the size advantage UNC will have with Bacot and the return of Manek. It’s the Cronin versus Davis matchup that pushes me toward the Bruins moving forward in the bracket. And I can’t unsee the North Carolina team that played in Las Vegas.

The Bet: UCLA -2 (-110)

No. 10 Miami (Fla.) vs. No. 11 Iowa State | 9:59 p.m. | TBS

It’s been a good run for Iowa State and the defense that carried it this far, but Miami will be the double-digit seed in the Elite Eight over the Cyclones. Iowa State thrived with its 3-point defense, but Miami doesn’t need an outside shot to generate offense as the Hurricanes will rely on speed and athleticism to outpace Iowa State.

The Bet: Miami -2.5 (-115)
