Lamar Wilkerson hit 10 3-pointers in a 41-point win for Indiana before taking on Kentucky
Remember Lamar Wilkerson? The Sam Houston State transfer nearly committed to Kentucky out of the portal this offseason, Mark Pope taking him to Keeneland’s Winner’s Circle to meet the ponies during his official visit to Lexington, only to sign with Indiana after a nice little pay bump and promised staff addition from Darian DeVries — whatever it takes, right?
Tonight, the senior sharpshooter set a single-game record for the Hoosiers with 10 made 3-pointers in the team’s 41-point win over Penn State.
So, that’s fun.
Wilkerson went for a career-high 44 points on 16-22 shooting and 10-15 from three while adding four rebounds, four assists and three steals in just 24 minutes. That came in a 113-72 victory just days before returning to Lexington when the Wildcats host the Hoosiers on Saturday with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
He’s the first college basketball player since 2021 to drop 44 points with 10 made threes in a game with that total also being an Assembly Hall record.
Remember Jodie Meeks’ 54-point performance at Tennessee? Malik Monk’s 47-point effort against North Carolina in Vegas? This was Indiana’s version of that — an all-time performance, right before taking on the Cats.

The 41-point win comes at a crucial time for the Hoosiers, coming off back-to-back nine-point losses at Minnesota and vs. No. 6 Louisville — their first slip-ups of the season.
Kentucky, meanwhile, is still desperately searching for its first victory against name-brand competition after four straight losses to begin the season, the most recent being the team’s most humiliating, losing by 35 to Gonzaga in Nashville. The Wildcats took care of business on Tuesday, but we all know our attention has been on Saturday’s date with Indiana since leaving Bridgestone Arena last week.
What can we expect from the Hoosiers? Tucker DeVries is the team’s leading scorer at 17.8 points per game to go with 5.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.0 steals while shooting 42.2 percent from the field, 41.2 percent from three and 87.9 percent at the line. Wilkerson is right behind at 16.0 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.7 steals on 42/38/78 splits with Tayton Conerway (11.8 PPG), Reed Bailey (10.3 PPG) and Sam Alexis (10.0 PPG) rounding out double-figure scorers.
IU sits at 8-2 going into the Lexington trip. Can UK make it 8-3? The Cats will have to slow down a former big-time portal target coming off a career effort.
