Lawmaking with the Kentucky General Assembly

As shown by the recent bill attempting to make the annual UK-U of L football and men's basketball games mandatory by law, it's apparent that the Kentucky Legislature thinks it's okay to make laws concerning sports.  Scroll down to the earlier post for the actual text of the proposed bill - it's mostly a bill that has to do with education and Kentucky's post-secondary institutions, but hidden in all of that is this line at the very end: "require the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville to play each other in football and men's basketball each year." I, for one, have never been the kind of person to agree with our government interfering in the sports world.  We've seen Congress attempt to get involved with the BCS situation and Roger Clemens/Barry Bonds, etc.  Not only is the national government trying to "do its part," but now Kentucky lawmakers have decided to get in on the act too. Taxpayers' money is being used to pay these guys, so we might as well make our voices heard.  What kind of laws would UK fans want in place if legislators continue down this path of interfering in the sports arena?  Clearly, the laws they make don't always have to have anything to do with, you know, running the state.  Heck, they don't even have to always make sense. So here are a couple of ideas for bizarre laws that UK fans could be cheering for: --Requiring that the University of Louisville and Morehead State play each other each regular season in men's basketball (those sneaky UK fans in the General Assembly are looking for a laugh if a repeat of the 2011 NCAA Tournament game happened) --Putting a limit on the number of times Coach Cal can tweet about Orange Leaf or Papa John's in a week --Making it mandatory that any Randall Cobb-type talent has the ball in his hands in the red zone if the Cats have another chance to beat Tennessee (or anyone else for that matter) --Banning Jimmy Dykes and Tony Greene from crossing the border into Kentucky --Giving Rick Pitino constant surveillance while he is in any sort of eating establishment (it's for the good of everyone, after all) --Set aside a little money for the UK football program.  Please.  Rich Brooks is still begging. --And speaking of UK football, let's get some funds together for a Matt Roark statue outside Commonwealth --A government-sponsored recruiting budget for Calipari (like I said, the laws clearly don't have to make sense or have anything to do with running the state; plus we all know how much the government likes throwing around cash) --Paying any of the medical expenses incurred by Drew Franklin after he gains 50 White Castle-induced pounds Let's hear some more, folks.  Go Cats.
