Fresh off of their 56-52 shootout victory over #14 Bowling Green last week in the first Kroger KSR Game of the Week of the 2023 season, four-star Kentucky commit QB Cutter Boley and his #10 ranked Lexington Christian Eagles travel to Boyle County for a blockbuster, Rebel Bowl matchup against three-star receiver Montavin Quisenberry and the #1 ranked Boyle County Rebels on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. EST.

The entire state was watching last Saturday night as Boley and Madison Central transfer running back Brady Hensley put on an absolute show to open Lexington Christian’s season.

Hensley, who found the end zone a total of 18 times last season (16 rushing, two receiving), had one of the best debuts in the history of Kentucky High School Football at Houchens Industries L.T. Smith Stadium. Along with rushing for 402 yards and five touchdowns, Hensley caught two touchdowns through the air from Boley. With his seven total touchdowns scored, Hensley became the 31st player in KHSAA history to score seven times in one game, joining the likes of former NFL MVP Shaun Alexander, Buffalo Bills running back Damien Harris, and former Kentucky wide receiver Ryan Timmons.

Although he may have been a tad overshadowed by Hensley’s historic performance, Boley had a great game as well. The future ‘Cat kicked off his final season at LCA with 342 yards passing and three touchdowns as he looks to repeat as Kentucky’s passing leader for the second season in a row. Boyle County’s stellar defense, which gave up just six points to Indiana’s Gibson Southern in their season opener last week, will be pushed to the limit in this one.

Justin Haddix’s Boyle County Rebels enter Saturday’s matchup against the Eagles as the number one ranked team in KSR’s latest High School Football Rankings. Haddix has built a dynasty in Danville, as Boyle is looking to win their fourth consecutive state championship this season. They got off to a great start in Week 1, rolling over Gibson Southern (Fort Branch, Indiana) 36-6.

Senior quarterback Sage Dawson was nearly perfect, throwing for 311 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. Dawson connected with three different receivers for a score, including senior Avery Bodner and juniors Geordon Brown and Montavin Quisenberry. Bodner and Quisenberry both scored rushing touchdowns and grabbed an interception as well. Star transfer running back Demauriah Brown (Danville) will not be eligible to suit up for the Rebels on Saturday, but he will be ready to roll Week 3 against his former squad.

Saturday’s Rebel Bowl pits two of the brightest stars in the state of Kentucky against each other in Boley and Quisenberry. This will be one of, if not the biggest, matchups of the season, and it should be an absolute treat for those in attendance. Here’s hoping for another exciting shootout from the Eagles.

Lexington Christian and Boyle County have met just one time prior to Saturday’s Rebel Bowl, with the Eagles coming out on top 35-28 back in 2021. LCA running back Xavier Brown, who is now a sophomore at the University of Virginia, rushed for 221 yards and a touchdown in the victory.
