Let's Go Bowling

ky-music-city-bowl-win The road to a bowl game has to start this Saturday against Alabama State. With five games remaining on the schedule the Cats have to win all of them to become bowl eligible. This is still very much an attainable goal if Kentucky can play good fundamental football. We have seen glimpses of this throughout the past couple of games. This team has serious fight and showed that against Mississippi State last Thursday. This week will be a good measuring stick. While Alabama State is not Alabama we have to have a killer’s attitude. This game cannot be close at any point. Moving forward we need a game where our offense clicks and our defense looks like it belongs in the SEC. On the offensive side of the ball the quarterback play has to stay with one guy bearing that there is no injury. If it is Whitlow then stick with him for the whole game. It does not do any good to keep changing guys and taking them out of game speed. There is no harder position to come in cold at than quarterback. As the game progresses, you start to pick up on tendencies that you have watched in film. However, if you are not in there consistently you might fail to pick up on something that could lead to a big play later in the game. With that being said, Jalen may not have the better arm, but he is the better athlete who can help to extend plays with his feet. I feel like before every game I have said that we need to start off with short easy passes to get both Jalen and the receivers warmed up. Watching our offense it seems like we hardly ever let Jojo Kemp or Ryan Timmons get out in space and allow them to make plays with their feet and field vision The defense has been playing better football than expected, but now that we are almost there we want more. Za’Darious who started the season off red hot has seemed to cool down as of late. While Offenses are starting to run plays and designing schemes around him and there are still plenty of plays that he is simply not making that he should. On the flip side Jason Hatcher has really stepped up and played some great football in his first year. It is hard to understand that just last year he was going up against high school players where he was a man amongst boys. Somehow he has transformed into a solid defensive end that Kentucky fans should be very excited about. While there is not much about the opposing team in this article the only real thing that you need to know is we are their toughest team by a long shot. This should be a game where the Cats win by a lot and get to excel in all parts of the game. The best case scenario is that the Cats win and we get out with no injuries. Go Cats @camyoung_KSR
