Kroger KSR Game of the Week: Lexington Christian vs. Bowling Green

Freddie Maggardby:Freddie Maggard08/14/23

We’re back! The Kroger KSR Game of the Week will be traveling to the campus of Western Kentucky University for the Lexington Christian vs. Bowling Green Saturday night matchup on August 19. I’ve been waiting a long time to make this announcement; I’m pretty pumped up if you can’t tell.

Our travels will take us all over the Commonwealth again this fall thanks to our good friends at Kroger. Community is a priority and staple at Kroger and we are honored to partner with them to present Games of the Week in Kentucky communities for the next four months. Let’s get into Saturday’s matchup. It’s going to be a doozy.

Lexington Christian Eagles

Lexington Christian is led by University of Kentucky commit Cutter Boley. The quarterback led 2A after throwing for 3,901 yards and 36 touchdowns in his first season with the Eagles. He’s back and is poised to lead his team on a hopeful state title run. Bolely gets back his top pass catcher in Chaney Parker. The receiver grabbed 83 passes for 1,175 yards, and 7 scores in 2022. Major Brown returns on the defensive side of the football after collecting 136 tackles and 8 TFLs a year ago.

Running back Brady Hensley transferred to LCA from Madison Central. The Legacy EKU commit led 6A in rushing a season ago after running for 1,470 yards in just 9 games. He also scored 16 touchdowns and averaged 7.5-yards per carry. His addition will give LCA the added element of a run game which could benefit Bolely’s effectiveness through the air.

Bowling Green Purples

Bowling Green is a traditional powerhouse program that is annually in the hunt for a state title. The KSR Preseason Poll listed the Purples No. 7 overall and No. 2 in 5A. Bowling Green allowed 16.3-points per game while scoring 33.1. The Purples finished last season averaging 209 passing yards per contest.

Quarterback Deuce Bailey deservedly grabbed state-wide attention last December with his excellent showing against Frederick Douglass in the 5A championship game. Bailey is an electric playmaker who threw for 3,136 yards and 34 touchdowns a year ago. He is considered one of the top players in the state of Kentucky. TE/WR Easton Barlow also returns after catching 52 passes for 1,008 yards and 12 touchdowns last season. Wick Dotson finished 2022 ranked 2nd in 5A with 5 interceptions on the defensive side of the football.

What Does All This Mean?

Football season in our football state is back. Our first Kroger KSR Game of the Week will feature two dynamic quarterbacks in Cutter Bolely and Deuce Bailey. The scoreboard could be busy on Saturday night.
