We don’t like to talk about “The Shot” around here, but there’s no denying its importance. Today, Mike DeCourcy has a nice feature on how the 1992 game vs. Duke helped launch Kentucky’s dynasty in the 1990s featuring quotes from John Calipari, Tom Leach, Dick Gabriel, former UK assistant Herb Sendek, Tony Delk, and Travis Ford.

Ford, now the coach at Saint Louis, opened up about the mood around the team after the game and how they turned heartbreak into fuel for the next season.

“Other than the outcome at that particular moment, it was just an incredible learning experience,” said Travis Ford, who played seven minutes against the Blue Devils but was the Wildcats’ No. 2 scorer the following season. “I know it made me, Jamal Mashburn, Dale Brown — all the guys who returned — incredibly motivated: ‘Let’s just try to get back to that point; if we can get back to that point, we’re going to get to the Final Four.’

“It put a hunger in us that drove us throughout the summer, drove us throughout the year, and it led us to the Final Four.”

Lots of good stuff in this one, so head on over to The Sporting News to check it out.
