LISTEN: Owensboro Quarterback Gavin Wimsatt talks Recruitment on KSR

SI
Ahead of Friday night’s Kroger KSR Game of the Week between Owensboro High School and Owensboro Catholic, Red Devils’ quarterback Gavin Wimsatt joined Kentucky Sports Radio to discuss the game and his ascendence through the recruiting rankings.
This summer 247 Sports ranked Wimsatt as the No. 37 player in America and the second-ranked dual-threat quarterback, the highest ranking by a passer from the Bluegrass since Tim Couch. His dramatic rise happened when he least expected it.
“It’s been fun to go through. It kind of happened over quarantine, really just posting a lot of workout videos and showing my progress. Before quarantine I only had three offers,” Wimsatt said. Now he has 19 scholarship offers.

One of those first offers came from the University of Kentucky. Even though he did not grow up necessarily cheering for the Wildcats in Owensboro, UK has made a significant early impression in the recruiting process.
“The coaches are great, really good to talk to. I love talking to Coach Marrow. He’s a great guy,” Wimsatt said. “He’s just a fun guy to talk to, ya know? He treats me like I’m his son, just like I’m one of his kids. He tells me what they want from me. They want me to be their quarterback of the future and help them win National Championships and they can definitely help me build my future.”
