LOOK: Harlan County Fisherman Breaks Kentucky's State Bass Record
An angler from Evarts, Kentucky is the state’s new largemouth bass record-holder.
Mark Ward’s Good Friday was actually a Great Friday. While casting a line on Highsplint Lake in Harlan County, Ward reeled in a 14-pound, 9.5-ounce largemouth bass.
“I pitched a lizard in there and the 4-pounder showed interest,” Ward said. “Then, another came in and looked like a big log. The 4-pound fish triggered her to pick it up. I set the hook and it was on.”
A Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife said “it would look like a shark if you saw it in the water.” It officially measured in at 26.8-inches long with a girth of 22.5 inches.
Ward’s fish surpassed the previous record of 13-pound, 10-ounce set by Dale Wilson in 1984.
