LOOK: Otega Oweh is putting in offseason work with his jump shot

After receiving tons of feedback from NBA scouts and personnel during the pre-draft process, Otega Oweh knows exactly what he needs to improve upon this offseason as he goes into his final year of college.
One of those areas is with his jumpshot.
Oweh’s shooting numbers have improved in all three of his college seasons, but there is certainly room for growth. He knocked 25 percent of his three-pointers as a freshman at Oklahoma in 2022-23, a number that shot up to 37.7 percent as a sophomore with the Sooners in 2023-24. It’s a stat that’s a bit misleading, though — during 18 Big 12 games, he shot just 20.6 percent (7-34) from deep.
But there was real improvement during his first season in Kentucky. He shot 35.5 percent from long range across the entire 2024-25 season, a figure that only dipped to 33.3 percent (11-33) against SEC competition. More work needs to be done, though, if he wants to make the leap into being a projected first-round pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. According to CBB Analytics, Oweh shot just 32.1 percent on mid-range 2s last season.
That work has already started. On Wednesday morning, Oweh posted a handful of clips (from a Blink camera, of all video sources) to social media of him getting up some one-on-one shots in a training session. The hitch in his jumper from last season is still there, but the actual shooting motion appears to be sped up just a bit more than usual. He also had a nice recovery block in one of the clips.

There are other areas of Oweh’s game he needs to clean up this offseason, including making strides as a playmaker and being more consistent on defense, but adding a reliable jumper is right up there among the top priorities.
The version of Oweh we saw last season was still good enough to make the All-SEC Second Team while averaging over 16 points per outing — imagine what he’ll look like as a senior with some refining in a few key areas.
