How much does Mark Pope understand Big Blue Nation? Enough to break down film with thousands of fans at a free meet-and-greet event.

He had 30 minutes on the main stage and asked BBN if they’d rather do a Q&A or dig into the X’s and O’s with film. When the louder applause came for the X’s and O’s, he started rolling with his presentation off the cuff, specifically transition offense and forcing defenses to flatten out while getting into quick ball screen actions.

“You gotta run wide and take away the pass-aheads,” he told the crowd of thousands. “Who are my basketball people? Who can tell me what that leaves open? Corner three, I love the way you guys think.”

Fans soaked in every second of it because Big Blue Nation is one of one. No one else in college basketball could pull this off, but that’s why Mark Pope is Mark Pope and BBN is BBN.

Take a look:

When he wasn’t on the main stage getting into the nuts and bolts, he was interacting with fans around the room, signing autographs and taking pictures. He even signed a car, because, again, that’s what we do at Kentucky.

It was a heck of a day at BBN United Fan Fest, and the best part is that we haven’t even gotten into the REALLY good stuff — Big Blue Madness is just an hour away.

We hear there is some fun stuff planned for folks in attendance. A good day is about to get better. Tune in, BBN.
