Mark Pope is the new head coach at BYU
Mark Pope has a new job in college basketball.
The former Kentucky Wildcat and ’96 national champion accepted an offer to become the new head coach at BYU, where he served as an assistant under the man he will replace, Dave Rose, from 2011-15. His four seasons under Rose in Provo landed Pope a head coaching gig at Utah Valley in 2015, where he coached the Wolverines to a 77-56 record in four seasons. This past season, he led UVU to a 25-10 record, setting a new record for wins in a single season at the school.
Pope had just agreed to a six-year extension with Utah Valley before BYU came calling. He will be officially introduced at his new job in a press conference later today.
Now let’s look back at that time he ripped off his clothes at BYU to reveal his old UK uniform in a video for the ’96 team’s reunion in Lexington.
