Mark Pope shared the news that he had been selected for jury duty following Kentucky’s win over Valparaiso, needing to call in each afternoon this week to find out if his services would be necessary for the following day. The second-year coach said he wanted to record his daily calls for Big Blue Nation to see, and now, we have our results for Monday.

“Okay, BBN. I’m calling in right now for jury service,” Pope said in Sunday’s update, posting the video on social media. “We’re gonna see what happens — say a little prayer.”

He dialed the number to the Fayette Circuit Court Administrative Office, adding, “I am sweating right now” as the phone rang, met with the following message.

“Jurors are not needed on Monday,” the recorded voicemail said. “Please note that we will also be closed on Tuesday, November 11th for the state holiday (Veterans Day). Jurors are not needed until Wednesday, November 12th.”

“I’m done! So, I’m out!” Pope responded. “I love you telephone service!”

Out Monday and Tuesday, he can now guarantee all of his attention will be on one thing and one thing only.

“Let’s go beat the Cards,” he said.

Pope talked about the call-in process with Tom Leach during his postgame radio show, juggling his desire to participate in the civic duty to the best of his abilities while also wanting to do his coaching duty of destroying Louisville to the best of his abilities.

“(It’s) semi-inconvenient, but I do love this Commonwealth and I love this state and I want to do my part, so we’ll see how this goes,” he said. “… Am I showing up at the courthouse? It’s going to be awesome. And so, I actually don’t know what I’m hoping for here. We’ll see. It’s going to be a great week. Has anyone served jury duty here? My most important question is, do they serve you lunch? Do they not serve lunch? Do you get a lunch break?

“Is there anybody who would be willing to substitute for me in jury duty? Alright, we’re all taking this journey together, guys.”

No excuses now, Coach. Your schedule is clear, go beat Louisville (again).
