Mark Stoops says Matt Elam has lost 30 pounds this summer
A hot topic of conversation this summer has been Matt Elam’s weight. The junior defensive tackle arrived at Kentucky at 400 lbs. in 2014, and since then, his weight has fluctuated drastically. In the most recent UK media guide, he’s listed at 360 lbs., but yesterday, Mark Stoops told reporters that Elam is down another 30 lbs. this summer to 330 lbs.
“I’m not going to jinx myself, we’re just a couple of pizzas away from going backward,” Stoops joked to KSTV and other reporters. “He’s definitely lost weight, I’m not making light of it. Matt’s worked really hard, I think you all know, I’ve talked about it several times. I’ve been very committed to helping him and putting people around him and giving him resources to help educate him and help him get down. It’s not as easy as saying, hey, go run stadiums or run. You have to educate him and help him and we’re putting a lot of people around him to be successful, and he’s worked very hard and seems very motivated.”

I know black is slimming, but Elam looks particularly svelte in this picture of the defensive line at the movie theater over the weekend:

As someone who has also struggled to keep weight off during my life, I sympathize with Elam. Keep up the hard work, buddy.
