KSR's Matt Jones Says Kentucky Guard Jaland Lowe Could Potentially Return for Louisville Game

Kentucky basketball received a scare on Friday night during the Blue-White game when point guard Jaland Lowe suffered a right shoulder injury. Lowe told the training staff it “popped out” on the floor, writhing in pain, before they quickly popped his shoulder back in place.
Kentucky coach Mark Pope provided a short update after the event, saying that Lowe “tweaked his shoulder” and that he would undergo testing on Saturday. Now, KSR’s Matt Jones has an update of his own.
During Saturday’s KSR Pregame Show, Jones said that a source told him it’s not off the table for Lowe to return for SEC play, which begins on Jan. 3. Then, Jones gave a much more optimistic timeline, saying that a return for Kentucky’s game against Louisville on Nov. 11 is “in play.”
“They’re still not 100 percent sure what it is, how bad it is, but they do not expect that it was really bad,” Jones said. “The question is more, are we talking a couple of weeks, four weeks, six weeks. The idea that this would be something keeping him out for the year or anything, I don’t think that’s going to be the case.”
“What I heard was, we don’t have great news yet, but we don’t have bad news,” Jones continued. “That’s what they were worried about.”

Jones said he asked if he would come back for the non-conference or for Louisville. He said that he was told, “at this point, both of those are still in play.”
Jaland Lowe Was Performing Well Pre-Injury
Jaland Lowe was looking sharp in Kentucky’s Blue-White before his injury. He finished the game with a team-high nine points on 3-for-6 shooting and 1-for-2 from three-point range. He also had two rebounds and one assist in nine minutes of play.
Lowe was recently named to the Preseason All-SEC Third Team. He transferred to Kentucky from Pittsburgh this offseason after averaging 16.8 points, 5.5 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game, en route to Third Team All-ACC honors in 2024-25.
Kentucky will take on No. 1 Purdue to open exhibition play on Friday, October 24 inside Rupp Arena with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m. ET, live on SEC Network.
