Maxwell Smith hired as assistant at Heidelberg University
A former Kentucky Wildcat has a new gig. Maxwell Smith, Kentucky’s quarterback from 2011-13 and a graduate assistant on Mark Stoops’ staff for the past few seasons, has been hired as the quarterbacks coach at Heidelberg University, a Division III school in Tiffin, Ohio.

In three seasons at Kentucky, Smith completed 292 passes on 486 attempts with 3,070 yards with 21 touchdowns. The Granada Hills, California native played in 21 games and started 11, earning Freshman All-SEC honors from the league’s coaches. He graduated from UK in 2014 and transferred to San Diego State for his final year of eligibility in 2015, leading the Aztecs to seven straight wins before suffering a torn ACL in the final regular-season game. Smith returned to UK in 2018 to work on his master’s degree in sports leadership while also serving as a graduate assistant.
