Following Robbie Caldwell’s dismal one-year tenure at Vanderbilt, where he led his team to a 2-10 record, James Franklin left his coach-in-waiting position at Maryland for a job in the SEC, accepting the offer to become the head coach of the Commodores. With largely the same roster which Caldwell used, Franklin took that two-win season from a year ago and turned it into a six-win bowl appearance. He has changed the culture at Vanderbilt into something to be proud of. His players, and potential recruits, are buying in. Vanderbilt football has the No. 18-rated recruiting class for 2013, according to Rivals. A very cool moment happened for one Vanderbilt football player, who had been working his tail off as a walk-on. The reaction everyone has to the great news is a perfect illustration of the attitude that has been instilled in the Vandy program.
