It's a sluggish morning here at the KSR compound after a long week in the Music City. But we are alive and somewhat well and excited for the next phase of the 2016-17 season: the NCAA Tournament.
1. Kentucky won its 30th SEC Tournament Championship yesterday.
It was yet another fun and successful for trip to Nashville as the Cats defeated Georgia, Alabama and Arkansas to win the SEC tourney title for the 30th time in the program's history. De'Aaron Fox was named tournament MVP with 22 points per game in the three wins; he was joined by Bam Adebayo and Dominique Hawkins on the all-tournament team.
2. Check out our photos from that one:3. The Cats earned the South Region's No. 2 seed.
As projected, Kentucky is the No. 2 seed in the South, a path that includes stops in Indianapolis, Memphis and Phoenix to reach the grand prize.
4. The first game is Friday at 9:30 pm against Northern Kentucky.
Also as projected, Kentucky will get Northern Kentucky in its tournament opener. That game will follow the Dayton/Wichita State game in Bankers Life Fieldhouse at 9:30 pm. It is also St. Patrick's Day, so some of you will die.
5. John Calipari says the South Region is the toughest draw he can remember.
With North Carolina, Kentucky and UCLA highlighting the bunch, Cal sees another unfortunate draw for his Kentucky Wildcats, which also includes a second-round matchup with either Wichita State or Archie Miller and Dayton.
Cal said, "From what everybody’s saying, could you imagine a couple brackets tougher than ours? This is my eighth year. It’s not been close. They call it murderer’s row, insane row."
6. Kentucky is a 19-point favorite over Northern Kentucky.
Seems a little low if you ask me. I might have to dabble in that one.
7. There wasn't a ton of enthusiasm at the selection show party at Calipari's:
The guys looked a little worn out from their SEC title run.
8. Are you excited to share a city with Louisville fans?
Maybe the worst part of Kentucky's draw is that it puts Big Blue Nation in Indianapolis with Louisville fans. We will have to stay in the same hotels, drink the same water, frequent the same spots and walk the same streets with them for an entire weekend, and that makes me nauseous.
9. We have a swaggy Cal on our hands.
