Murray State featured in The Field of 68 Opening Day Marathon, which includes 15 straight hours of college hoops

For the second straight season, The Field of 68 is hosting a season-opening marathon of nothing but men’s college hoops.
This year’s event will start on Monday, November 3rd, and run for 15 hours straight. Named The Field of 68 Opening Day Marathon, it features 12 total teams split between two different host sites: Rock Hill, SC, and Sioux Falls, SD. Three teams in the event — Omaha, Drake, and High Point — made the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
The Murray State Racers, led by first-year head coach Ryan Miller, have been tabbed as one of the dozen programs set to participate. Murray State is scheduled to take on the Omaha Mavericks at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET. It will be the third of three games played in Sioux Falls.
“The Sanford Pentagon is an outstanding venue, and it’s special to compete so close to my hometown of Mitchell, South Dakota,” Miller said in Murray State’s press release. “We’re thrilled to open the 2025-26 NCAA season in the prestigious Field of 68 event against Omaha, last year’s Summit League champions and NCAA Tournament participants. Neutral-site games like this are vital to our challenging non-conference schedule.”

Back to the Racers for a second, though. New head coach Ryan Miller replaces Steve Prohm, who posted a 45-52 record during three seasons at Murray State. Miller comes to the Bluegrass State as a brand-new head coach after spending over two decades as an assistant at the Division I level. He was recently an assistant at Creighton from 2021-25 and even spent time learning under John Calipari at Memphis from 2004-06.
After making the NCAA Tournament three times in five seasons (2017-22) under former head coach Matt McMahon, who now coaches at LSU, Murray State has not sniffed the Big Dance since. Pulling off a big win over an Omaha team that just made the tournament would be a nice way to start the Miller era.
