Just two days after the NCAA announced that student-athletes who participate in men's and women's basketball or football would be allowed to partake in voluntary activities, they extended those rights to all Divison I sports. On Friday afternoon, the NCAA posted a press release stating that "Division I student-athletes in all sports will be permitted to participate in voluntary athletics activities beginning June 1." This means other sports such as soccer and baseball will be permitted to resume in some capacity for the first time since COVID-19 shut them down in mid-March. https://twitter.com/InsidetheNCAA/status/1263930210933760002 “The return of voluntary activity in addition to the extension of the waiver to allow virtual, nonphysical activity shows sensitivity to local, state and regional differences in how Division I campuses are reopening,” said Council chair M. Grace Calhoun, athletics director at Pennsylvania, according to the NCAA's press release. “We will continue to be considerate of these differences with wise and flexible administration of our regulations, and we expect schools to keep the well-being of student-athletes as a priority.” Earlier on Friday, the SEC announced that they will allow student-athletes the ability to return to their respective campuses on June 8 for voluntary workouts. Tucked away in the NCAA's announcement was the prohibition of schools hosting football camps or clinics in the 2020 calendar year. Required athletic activities for football and basketball are still on hold until at least June 30.
