New Tiger Woods Documentary a Must Watch

If you are Tiger Woods, maybe don’t watch this new documentary. But if you aren’t Tiger Woods and you love a good sports story, this one is for you.
Tiger is a new two-part documentary on HBO Max detailing the rise, fall and comeback of the legendary golfer. Shortly before the first episode aired, Tiger’s agent Mark Steinberg was extremely critical of the documentary, calling it a ‘salacious’ and an ‘incomplete portrait’ of the golfer’s life. That certainly hasn’t stopped people from watching, though.
Beginning with footage from his childhood, the documentary describes the impossible standards set by Tiger’s father, Earl Woods, from a very young age. Earl, a retired US Army lieutenant colonel believed his son was sent by God to unite the world – and he treated him like it, too. Earl pushed his son to the edge, focusing on his mental toughness.
After Earl died, Tiger began partaking in Navy Seal training in an attempt to feel close to his late father. The training totally exhausted his already strained body, contributing to a series of knee and back injuries that would later plague his playing career.
The producers go on to interview close former allies of the Woods family, including Tiger’s longtime caddy Steve Williams and his first high school girlfriend Dina Parr. Even more interesting, the documentary includes first-hand testimony from the center of Tiger’s affair scandal: New York hostess Rachel Uchitel. Uchitel, who has been relatively silent since the scandal broke in 2009, reveals that she and Tiger actually convinced Tiger’s then-wife that the cheating scandal was false just days before the infamous incident at the end of the Woods’ driveway.

The documentary also details Tiger’s struggle with addiction and his recovery, with police footage from his 2017 DUI where he had five different drugs in his system.
The second episode ends with his iconic win at the 2019 Master’s, giving him his 15th major championship. I’m not so good at math, but I believe that leaves him just three behind the all-time leader, Jack Nicklaus. Though he just recently underwent his fifth back surgery, I can’t help but think he will get those three – maybe even more. Guess I’m a sucker for a good comeback story.
What do you think, folks? Can Tiger seal the deal to become the undisputed greatest of all time? Or is he done?
