No. 12 Kentucky Sweeps Ohio in 3-Game Series

[caption id="attachment_175454" align="aligncenter" width="238"]10896083 Photo by UK Athletics[/caption] After defeating EKU during the home opener on Wednesday, the Wildcats continued their streak with a series sweep over the Bobcats, the 2014 Mid-American Conference Tournament Champions. Kentucky continued Ohio’s record of 0-6 on the road this weekend at John Cropp Stadium. Despite a rain delay to postpone the double header, the Cats came through with a 7-2 win in the first game. Offensively, many University of Kentucky players were able to contribute vastly to the win. Christian Stokes provided one run, three hits, and two RBIs. Sylver Samuel scored two runs and a hit. Nikki Sagermann added one run and two hits while Maisie Steed contributed one run, two hits and four RBIs. Erin Rethlake and Darington Richardson also scored runs. In the circle, Kelsey Nunley came in to throw in the third inning, pitching 4.2 perfect innings with five strikeouts. https://twitter.com/KYwildcatsTV/status/576865065707692032 In game two, the Cats came from behind to beat the Bobcats 6-4. During the first four innings, Kentucky was trailing by four runs with no score until they made a big break in the fifth inning with a five-point sweep. Offensively, Stokes, Nunley, and Breanne Ray each had one run and one hit. Ray also added two RBIs and Ansley Smith contributed a run. Griffin Joiner had a big game with one run, two hits and two RBIs. Defensively, Nunley made huge advances for Kentucky. The pitcher entered during the top of the fifth with the bases loaded and trailing by four. Stokes had another big game and contributed two runs and three hits. Kara Howard also made two hits and one run and Sagermann added a run, a hit, and an RBI. Richardson provided a hit and an RBI but was unable to score. Steed had one of her best games of the season, scoring one run, three hits, and four RBIs. Defensively, Rethlake and Nunley allowed no scores during the game. Kentucky will take on Murray State at Murray State on Tuesday at 1:00 PM.
