OKTC's latest "Awkward Fan Photo"
I have a lot of feelings about
Clay Travis. If you're not up on your Southern sports personalities, he's a Nashville-based sports writer that started the "Outkick the Coverage" (OKTC) blog and also co-hosts the popular "3HL" show on 104.5 the Zone. Clay is, shall we say, polarizing; which is something that we here at KSR are very accustomed to, and, unsurprisingly, one of his favorite targets is Kentucky. Like several writers,
Travis thrives on making fun of the Cats and their fans, which, well, we can't really criticize too much because we do the same thing to Louisville, Tennessee, [insert team here], etc. Now, part of Travis' schtick on OKTC is posting "Awkward Fan Photos" from other SEC fanbases and mocking them. Again,
can't really look down on that too much here,
can we? But, today's submission (see above) hits a little close to home.
Travis points out his 13 favorite things about the photo, which yes, with my Big Blue pride in check, I will admit is rather mock-worthy. I encourage you to go read all of them, but here are a few if you're lazy.
1. Who commissions a portrait like this?
This isn't a drunk gameday snapshot. Or a stupid wedding photo that we all end up looking ridiculous while posing for.
These are people who thought: "We want to spend hundreds of dollars on a portrait of ourselves wearing Kentucky gear and holding our poodle wearing a Kentucky sweater."
Also, what about the dog groomer who was told to make sure the poodle looked great because the couple was getting its picture taken with her?
Hey now, ain't no shame in a Glamour Shot. Not only is it a keepsake, but it can do wonders for your confidence.
Just ask Terrence Jones.
9. There is a blue mist surrounding the picture.
Which makes me believe that this is what Kentucky fans believe heaven is like.
You get to wear Kentucky sweaters all day long.
And even the dogs are fans.
Without the blue mist I would have been totally confused as to which team these fans were rooting for.
Well, actually, yes, add in four more national championship trophies and sure, that's what heaven is like.
The clincher, the thing that really saves me from getting mad at Travis, is his twelfth favorite thing about the photo:
12. The hoop earrings on the woman.
It says sexy, but not the kind of sexy that leaves you lying on the ground in an Italian restaurant after hours while Rick Pitino runs a fast break on your wife.
Rick Pitino jokes really are universal.
Does Travis' smackdown of this sweet family portrait get your Big Blue anger rising or have you running for the closest Glamour Shots?
