Oklahoma State fires Mike Gundy after three games

Last year was a slow one for the coaching carousel as many power conference programs were hesitant to fire a football coach and take on a buyout with revenue-sharing coming down the chimney. The 2025 carousel was expect to have much more traffic. We are seeing that play out before the calendar even turns to Ocotber.

Oklahoma State became the third power conference school to make a change in the first month-plus of the college football season. Mike Gundy is out after 21-plus years at his alma mater. The Pokes are starting a search shortly after UCLA and Virginia Tech entered the market.

Les Miles was the last head coach in Stillwater not named Mike Gundy. A major change is coming in the Big 12. Who could fill his shoes? Expect Texas State head coach GJ Kinne to be mentioned a ton for this job but former Kentucky offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson is also appearing on candidate lists. Louisville (Ky.) Trinity alum and former Louisville quarterback Will Stein is also a name to watch with any opening this cycle.

Oklahoma State has finally decided to separate from Gundy. What jobs could open next? All eyes in the SEC turn to Arkansas and Florida after both programs are off consecutive losses and figure to enter the market this season.

Expect a lot of action on the coaching carousel this season.
