Otega Oweh's teammates joined him for his SEC Network postgame interview
Team chemistry has been a big talking point this season, going back to the “pregame experience” before the Louisville game and the team’s behavior in the games since. After the ugly loss to Gonzaga, which will hopefully be the low point of the season, Otega Oweh went on a mission to prove that this team is just fine. Oweh finished with a season-high 21 points in the 103-67 win over NC Central, and invited his teammates to crash his postgame interview on SEC Now.
“It was big,” Oweh said of the win as Braydon Hawthorne, Kam Williams, Mo Dioubate, Jasper Johnson, Brandon Garrison, and Denzel Aberdeen crowded behind him. “We just wanted to come out and turn the script, just play with energy. Obviously, we’re on our home court, so we just wanted to go out there and have the most energy we can possibly have and play with some intensity.”
When Daymeon Fishback asked Oweh how he’s instilling confidence in his teammates after the bad loss in Nashville, Oweh said that as a veteran, he keeps reminding them that it’s early, still early enough to turn things around.
“It’s not even just me. We’ve just all got to continue to pump confidence into each other, regardless of the outcome. Obviously, in the last game, we didn’t have the outcome we wanted, but it’s still so early. So me being an older guy, I’m just continuing to preach that. It’s early, and we can flip the script. We’ve just got to show up every single day.”
Throughout the interview, more of Oweh’s teammates filtered in to celebrate. Oweh gave Jasper Johnson, who finished with a career-high 22 points, a shoutout, encouraging the freshman to continue to step up.
“Jasper was great. He came out there, and he was really aggressive. I think that’s when he’s at his best, when he’s playing aggressive. Especially when you’re a freshman, when you have games like that, it’s definitely a confidence booster.”

Jasper’s play was great, but the best moment of the night was Zach Tow hitting a three with 32 seconds left, his first field goal as a Wildcat. Tow wasn’t in the group around Oweh, but got a shoutout all the same.
“That was dope. That was dope. Zach had his first field goal tonight. It was great. They show up every single day in practice and help us out a great amount, so the fact that he came out here and made a shot, that’s huge.”

“There ain’t no off-the-court stuff. It’s all on the court. Obviously, people are going to speculate, but it’s all on the court. We’re the closest group. We all hang out. We’re all good. There ain’t nothing off the court.”
