Patrick Towles Named a Parade All-American

– I repeat, Patrick Towles is a Parade All-American. From WLWT 5 in Cincinati:

Highlands High School football standout Patrick Towles has racked up yet another postseason honor. On Jan. 13, Towles was named to Parade magazine’s 49th annual All-America High School Football Team.

Towles, who has committed to play next fall for the University of Kentucky, was the only player from the state of Kentucky named to the team.

This past season, the senior quarterback led the Highlands Bluebirds to their fifth straight state championship. For his efforts, Towles was named Mr. Football and the Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Kentucky.

– Cris Collinsworth told Larry Vaught that Towles was ‘as good as he has seen:’

How have you enjoyed being around Patrick Towles and what type of future do you think he has?

Collinsworth: “He can be anything, anywhere. He makes some throws in practice sometimes that I go, ‘Oh my gosh. There are NFL guys that can’t make that throw.’ He is big, strong, physical. He is just now kind of getting into learning all the intricacies of how to read safeties, watch the outside (line) backer to see if he is dropping or coming up. He is a fast learner, a smart kid and he runs like a bear. He is competitive. I personally think there are going to be a lot of universities that are just sick they did not get on Patrick Towles sooner and will be trying to by the end of this season.”

– While Towles still has a ways to go to prove that he’s better than a Brad Bardo or Mitch McMahon, he’s destined to be a star. We haven’t been this excited about a quarterback since Jared Lorenzen, another Highlands High product. I just wish that there was some way that we could see Lorenzen and Towles together at some event. Maybe something for charity involving pizza…

Oh what’s that? THERE IS?

That’s right, our buddy Mark Collier, of Ft. Thomas Matters fame, and the legendary Will Chambers will take on Jared Lorenzen and Patrick Towles in a pizza eating contest this Sunday. The two teams will have 15 minutes to eat a 24 inch pie. The event, called Mark vs. Food, kicks off at 1:00 at Raniero’s Pizzeria in Cold Spring (Northern Kentucky, y’all).
