Previewing the Golden Flashes

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="676"] The linescore from the 21 inning game in the 2012 Gary Regional[/caption] With Kentucky's oft-delayed loss to Kansas in the first round of the Louisville regional, the Cats earned a 1pm elimination game match-up against the loser of the top seeded Louisville and fourth seeded Kent State game, which happened to be the Golden Flashes.  To say that Kentucky and Kent State have history is an understatement. Just two short years ago, the Cats and Golden Flashes played in one of the longest, wildest games in NCAA Tournament history.  After UK was passed over as a regional host for Purdue, who's new stadium was still under construction due to construction delays, the Boilermakers had no choice but to host the regional at US Steel Yard, home of the Gary SouthShore RailCats, in scenic Gary, Indiana.  The two teams played 21 innings in the opening game of the NCAA Regional with the Cats falling 7-6.  Two days later, UK and Kent met in the regional championship game with the Golden Flashes winning on a three-run home run that was not actually a home run, which ended the winningest season in UK history.   [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="308"] The UK Baseball team's reaction when learned they were playing Kent State in an NCAA Regional again[/caption] But I digress, on to the task at hand.  The Golden Flashes (36-22), fourth in the MAC regular season and winners of the MAC tournament, fell to Louisville and Cardinal ace Kyle Funkhouser  last night, 5-0 to set up the win or go home game. The Cats will start staff ace and SEC and National Player of the Year A.J. Reed, who has an SEC leading 11-2 record and a 2.10 ERA in 15 starts.   The Golden Flashes will likely start sophomore Nick Jensen-Clagg who is 5-2 with a 4.76 ERA in 13 starts and leads the team in strikeouts. First pitch is (weather permitting) slated for 1pm at Louisville's Jim Patterson stadium.  Same story as yesterday, the game will be broadcast on ESPN3 and Neil Price’s call can be heard on 630 WLAP in Lexington and 1080 WKJK in Louisville. Single Session Tickets: General Admission (berm), $10 Chair-back, $15 College Student, $5 updated bracket I'll back with the Live-Diary right around game-time so come join the fun and follow me on Twitter @DMulloyKSR for game updates. See you in a few Go Cats
